Goatboy here with quick thoughts on GW’s 9th Ed. Q&A.    I want to knock out a few things that I thought were interesting.

So with that – let’s begin this dance.  Everything sounded great and I can’t wait to hear more as the week moves along.

Evolutionary Edition

The Edition is more like an 8.5 versus a whole new edition.  I am excited by this as it means the old books will most likely work still.  This also means that overall bedrock of the game stays the same so we are not trying to learn a ton of new stuff as we jump at the chance to play competitive 40k again.

CP Rework

Capped Command Points sounds like a great update as it lets everyone play on the same field.  It also means you will look at less “detachment” abuse to try and gain as my CP as you can.  On to top of this the CP are now a resource you will have to use to build your armies as well.  This means while Soup is still there – you are losing some power when you burn those to build out your lists.  It also means less “fodder” detachments needed just for CP value.  It also frees you up so you could take a Fortification detachment.

Modifiers Tamed

Modifiers capping at +1 and -1 is a good thing as there were some really annoying combos out there.  I played the Possessed star so having a -3+ unit is just – a rough thing to try and chew thru.  It also means flyers will no longer have this -3+ murder planes to cause damage.

New Terrain

Terrain getting new rules is a great thing as well.  I love the idea of some terrain getting the obscure key word and let you hide your army.  This is a huge thing as you could have your assault friends easily sneak up.  It also makes me wonder if buildings will just have this so the flat – can’t shoot thru windows ITC uses becomes something showing up in the basic game.

Rising Monsters & Tanks

You can’t tie up Monsters and Vehicles from shooting.  I wonder if they can only shoot at the models tying them up so getting your gribbles in combat is a good thing still.  Will have to wait and see.

More Stratagems

Did I hear that there are more default Stratagems?  Something like I asked about all those soapbox  times in my editorials?

Helping Morale

Finally the Morale issue being fixed or worked on is a good thing.  I hated that Morale basically meant nothing in the current game of 40k so getting something worked on would be great.  It also means powers like only losing 1 to combat is important.

Overall everything sounds great and I can’t wait to see more rules as they pop up later on this week.  I am hoping we see more in the coming weeks and then the release showing up quickly.  I can’t wait to get a hold of a rulebook to see all the new crazy stuff we can do.

What of these are you most excited about?
