A new update from the Old World really bears checking out closer. The waiting for more news has been unbearable. Look it’s about bears. Check it out.

Talking about the Old World is requires a bit of linguistic gymnastics because we’re talking about the new Old World, not the old Old World which got blown up and replaced with the Age of Sigmar. This new world, which is the Old World, will feature all the things that folks are familiar with, but taking on some bold new characteristics. Today we’re going to look at some new artwork featuring Old World bears. A classic combo.

So far, Kislev has been at the heart of everything new about the Old World. And it’s front and center here with a map of the region and its ursine friends:

Kislev is a cold and hard country which forms a natural border between the Empire of Sigmar and the Chaos tainted-lands further north. Between the chill winters and constant threat of marauding enemies, the people of Kislev are hard and constantly ready for battle, and they use all the meagre resources of their country to their advantage… including the most abundant of their native animals. As an added bonus, they’re a bit fierce too.

But bears have long been a part of Warhammer Fantasy. Kislev tsars have ridden bears into battle, the Kislevianites revere Ursun, father of bears:

Ursun Father of Bears is mainly worshipped in Kislev.

The ancient Gospodars worshipped bears as sacred creatures. The bear Ursun is often depicted as a cave bear with a crown, teeth and claws of glistening gold. He can also take human form and will appear as a burly, bearded man with an age-worn face, thick hairy arms and a great mop of hair and wearing nothing but a loincloth (making him stand out as any normal human would freeze wearing that little clothing).

And they’ve been a part of Warhammer Fantasy models since back in the day. Now, it seems, they’re getting a fresh new sculpt, thanks to some swanky old world art.

We can’t wait to see the bear cavalry that will be coming to Warhammer: The Old World. They’re a long way from being models yet, but we’ve secured some stunning concept sketches of what you’ll be able to expect.

So get ready for Bear Cavalry folks. Let us know what you think in the comments
