Fantasy Flight Games has a updated Banned and Restricted List for Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game. Come see what’s on the blocked list.

Legend of the Five Rings follows FFG’s LCG model and that means cards can stay in the card pool for a long, long time. Every now and then though a card does overstay its welcome. When that happens, the Developers do step in and add it to either the Banned or Restricted lists.

What’s the difference? The Banned list means you can’t add the cards in that list to any decks at all. The Restricted list is a list of cards that you can still include in your deck – you just can only include ONE restricted card in your deck list. You can run as many copies as normal of that single card. With that cleared up, here’s the list:

If you’d like to check out the reasoning behind these change/card restrictions then give the FFG article a read. It’s got a lot of good info about the “behind the scenes” decision to add these cards to their respective lists.

The good news is that “No rules have changed with this update.” If you want to check out the update for future reference, you can view that here:

While these changes are the new “law of the land” keep in mind that L5R is a Living Card Game and therefore is going to change over time. Tyler Parrott, the developer for the game, takes a look at the data every three months for the competitive scene and makes adjustments. The next update is slated for October. Things can (and probably will) change for the game by then. Nothing is forever in the land of  Rokugan!

What do you think of the developer’s effort to keep the metagame fresh and interesting in a Living Card Game?
