The new edition of 40K means new rules for every faction, including the Adeptus Mechanicus, whose new stratagems and rules we’re looking at today.

The Adeptus Mechanicus seek to transcend the limitations of the flesh, and today we’re taking a look at how they’ll accomplish that objective in the grim darkness of the ninth edition.

One of the biggest challenges facing the Ad-Mech is the smaller board size which means you’ll be facing down assault armies quicker, and won’t be able to leverage the previously massive range of weapons all match. But new strategies like Desperate Breakout are there to help assuage this, although I don’t know why you’d do this over, say, falling back normally so you can benefit from rules that still let you shoot and not risk destruction in the process.

Kataphron units are getting a little more time in the spotlight, here’s a new Warlord trait designed to capitalize on the toughness of the Kataphron, getting a 5+ feel no pain in the workings.

Fans of the new Duneriders, on the other hand, will have a quick and easy stratagem at their disposal–one that costs nothing even–to evacuate troops from a Dunerider when it gets blown up.

This is just a taste of things to come. We’ll have to see how the Ad-Mech shape up overall, but, it looks like they’ll have to keep some good tricks up their sleeve. The mobility of their new units, plus the tried and true assault power of units like the Sydonian Dragoons will surely help them bring glory to the Omnissiah in the new edition. As always, we’ll be keeping an eye out for new rules previews and spoilers ahead of time, so check back for more info.

In the meantime, what do you think of the new rules? Let us know in the comments!
