New Mutants finally made it’s debut so let’s invite those kids to the D&D table to learn to control their powers and take a break from world saving.
I wanted to write all of these characters as a little lower in level than I usually make and a little more out of their depth , so I made them all level 3 and human. For Dani I went back and forth on her class for a while. She doesn’t have the best control of her powers and is still figuring out what the heck they even are; but that’s the story of almost every mutant and I thought that taking away the possibility of any mutant being a very purposefully magic class like wizard out of the equation wouldn’t be any fun. In the end I decided on Illusion Wizard because this particular version of her powers go into your brain and pull out things that you’re afraid of to torment you with. It may not be an illusion, but the idea of creating an idea to fight with I thought fit the bill.
Rahne was easy! She changes into a wolf and to me that means wild shape which means druid. I tried to find the balance between what the player’s handbook said she should have on hand and what made sense for her to have with her per the movie. But, I differed more to the book than I normally do for these characters because they’re all characters at the start of their adventure and would probably have more of the standard book stuff than their own.
Even with the somewhat tuned down version of her powers, Illyana is still all over the place and more than a little hard to pin down class-wise. I teeterd between warlock and sorcerer before finally deciding on hexblade warlock for the sword and attitude aspects. I tried to mimic some of her other powers in her spells, for example misty step is sort of like a light version of teleportation. She’ll get most of the rest of her powers as she levels up, it’s cool. It was also very important to me to list Lockheed on the sheet… even if that is usually more of a Kitty Pryde thing. If a character shows up with a pseudodragon, there is no way I’ll ignore that pseudodragon.
How would you have made these characters for D&D? How would you have made Roberto and Sam? What characters or movies would you like me to make next? Let us know in the comments!
