Goatboy’s Warhammer 40K: Rolling With Kharn’s Mastodon

Goatboy here and today I want to talk about the Mastodon – Kharn’s recreational vehicle of choice!

I originally was going to look at doing some kind of Blade Guard monstrosity with the Mastodon – but somehow GW has decided that my enjoyment of taking a big brick of Resin and shoving as many close combat monsters into it – wasn’t going to work with Primaris.  I don’t understand why – beyond some thoughts that maybe the GW Primaris tank will all of a sudden get a special box to put guys in with a smaller and less “please look at me” gun on top.  This leads me into thinking – well I guess I have to go Chaos with this big box of nonsense.

Thus – today’s bit of gibberish talking about making some kind of army using one of these… Mastodon’s.  I thought about it, pulled out my trusty army builder, and decided that the only way I could get this to work right in my addled brain is to go Khorne.  Because if it isn’t Khorne – it isn’t screaming Blood for the Blood God and that makes me sad.  With that in mind – here is the army sheet and will go into the list after that.

The new FW book ended up matching this thing with the Imperial one so if you want to play with Firstborn  guys – you can and shove them into this.  I am sure there is a great SW version using a ton of super characters (but no Ragnar…) and then shoving that down someone’s throat.  This version is instead a Khorne one with basically 2 drops.  Take that set up time!

Kharn’s RV of Doom!

The idea in this pile of nonsense is to take all your footloose and fancy free infantry models and shove them in the Mastodon.  You have 40 spaces where the Termys and Jump Pack lord each take 2 – thus you got 18 left which leaves enough for the 15 Zerks and 2 extra friends.  You got one space left – but not enough points to fit much of anything.  I thought about finding points to do a Greater Possessed because why not – but then I answered that by saying everyone needs Icons of Wrath to make sure they touch who they need to.

The plan is to burn some CP, shove the Raptors forward, and then the Mastodon up.  If you can take the middle you then can have a pretty insane 2nd turn as you vomit out all your baddies, move forward, and hopefully double assault into victory.  The Chaos Lord with the Jump pack jumps out 3, moves 12+d6 and then gives a +1 to charge bubble around him.  Did you know that Aspiring Champions can take double Chainswords now – which with the updates doesn’t seem like a completely terrible idea.  World Eaters have a neat strat that grants their unit an extra -1 to their AP on melee options so it isn’t too bad.  The Terminators are set up this way because Lightning claws got pretty dang good.  It might just end up being better to go 1 Lightning claw with a combi bolter but we all miss lightning claws being good.  I also put in Kharn because – Horton told me too and you should listen to the Khorne man of the year.  I really miss events and seeing friends…

Anyway – this is me getting the Mastodon to work somehow.  It seems tough enough to survive with some decent firepower.  The Khorne stuff should do wonders charging units of whatever especially with so many things double to triple attacking.
