Star Wars: Know Your Bounty Hunters

The galaxy far far away seems to have always had bounties to hunt, and luckily there have been seemingly countless Bounty Hunters ready to take on any job.

With roughly a zillion Bounty Hunters, Star Wars takes place in a galaxy with a lot of people on the run from a lot of other people. Saying it’s effectively the wild west is almost too on the nose considering the Spaghetti Western inspiration large swaths of the Galaxy Far, Far Away pulled from. But who are these Bounty Hunters? Which are the most important and the most iconic?

Boba Fett

I almost feel like we can gloss over Boba Fett because let’s be real, you know about him already. From classic original trilogy Bounty Hunter and all-around fan favorite to one of the best parts of The Mandalorian’s second season, Boba Fett is perhaps the most well-known of the galactic Bounty Hunters. Plus, he’s getting his own Disney+ show sometime next year.

Asajj Ventress

The former Sith apprentice to Count Dooku, Asajj is deadly with a capital everything. But she is also a surprisingly complex and morally gray character, choosing from time to time to help others instead of collecting her reward or freeing captives at the jeopardy of her overall job. Fearsome, fascinating, and multifaceted, Asajj is the sort of character whose Bounty Hunter status is one of the least interesting things about her.

IG-88

A rare droid Bounty Hunter, IG-88 may look a lot like a certain babysitting murder droid from The Mandalorian, but he is actually a different character. Though he appeared only briefly in The Empire Strikes Back, he’s become a favorite, causing him to appear in comics, cartoons, and games where he persues bounties such as Qi’ra and Princess Leia and was hired by the likes of Darth Vader and Agent Kallus.

Aurra Sing

A Clone Wars era Bounty Hunter, Aurra Sing is a sniper and assassin, making her exceptionally skilled in the art of taking in marks dead or alive. Or dead. Working with Cad Bane, Ziro the Hutt, Boba Fett, and having run-ins with Hondo Ohnaka and Ahsoka Tano, Aurra has messed with some of the most notable and notorious characters in the galaxy. Sniper shots and short-distance fights are equally deadly when Aurra Sing is involved.

Cad Bane

Speaking of Star Wars and Spaghetti Westerns, Cad Bane looks like he stepped right out of the old west. Infiltrating the Jedi Archives to steal a holocron, battling Anikan, and even once managing to capture a young Ahsoka Tano, Cad is one of the most formidable Bounty Hunters in the galaxy. And with an all-business attitude, it’s never even a little bit personal. And let’s be honest, he has one of the best aesthetics in the bounty hunter game.

Who is your favorite Bounty Hunter from the galaxy far far away? Which bounty do you think was the most fun to watch or read? Would you take this job if you were a Star Wars character? Let us know in the comments!
