It’s time to break out the ruler, and a calculator to figure out exactly how big the Dark Master is now.

As you all know by now, an all-new 2021 Edition Be’lakor is on the way to both Age of Sigmar and Warhammer 40K! If there is a constant of the warhammer universe it’s that models from Warhammer Fantasy are reborn into the Age of Sigmar in new super-sized editions, dripping with new detail. The 2021 Be’lakor is’ an enormous miniature, but even with the pictures GW has shown off, folks are trying to get an idea of how big the new fellow is.

Luckily, we all have the common denominator of math, rulers and base sizes to light our way. Let’s get started.

Here’s the official GW image:

Now folks have compared the GW image of Be’lakor on the tabletop using the other daemons and the Primaris marine on his base as a guide to estimate his base size as 100mm, the same as the Daemon Primarchs.

With that bit of knowledge, we can fire up photoshop and start working up comparisons. First up, the obvious comparisons:

Here is Old Be’lakor on his 60mm base:

Now it’s time for the BIGGER, BADDER comparison. Putting those two together and scaling the base widths give us this:

He’s a LOT bigger.

Trompe l’oeil

Now right off the bat, there are a few subtle visual design tricks going on to deceive the viewer about Be’lakor’s actual stature. The new model is on a tall scenic base, and he is posed stepping down, further increasing his height.  His wings are outstretched while the old model’s are folded up – yet again increasing his visual weight. Still, there is no denying the vast increase in volume.

Now let’s move onto some other models. These next two shots come from imgur, and are being passed around on some forums.

First up, let’s compare Be’lakor to Abaddon and Mortarion:

Pretty beefy, and the Dark Master holds up well.

Next, let’s compare him to Magnus the Red. Here is where it gets surprising:

WHAT! It sucks when your younger brother is taller than you!

What is occurring here is not that Be’lakor is small – but rather GW made the Magnus miniature really, REALLY huge. Of course, it’s clearly all an illusion planted into our brains by Magnus. But before you go off with a demonic inferiority complex, let’s wrap this up with a comparison of Be’lakor to the current plastic Daemon Prince.

Ahh, all better now.

~Are you planning on picking up The Dark Master? Will you base him AoS, 40K, or generic?
