Season 2 of Picard has a very dear old friend and fan favorite – Q dropping in for a visit.

The first season brought back favorite characters from TNG, this new season is no different. Picard and Q last met in the final episode of TNG, which focused on three points in time – the present, the first mission of USS Enterprise-D seven years earlier, and twenty-five years into the future when Picard has retired to his vineyard in France. Picard randomly jumps through each point throughout the episode – at the whim of Q, who is testing him. Will this season will be a continuation or an entirely new test for the Starfleet Captain?

Some other things in the teaser…

  • The constellation-class starship U.S.S. Stargazer
  • An hourglass with its sand running in reverse
  • A copy of Paradise Lost
  • Drawing of the U.S.S. Enterprise-D
  • A communicator used on the Enterprise-D
  • Card related to the poker game in the final episode… maybe?

With Q in play and the hints back to TNG, there’s bound to be more characters coming back.

Showrunner Akiva Goldman talked to HR about the choice to bring Q into the show.

There are a lot of people who think of Q as a trickster god, right? And he is. But he’s also a profoundly significant relationship in Picard’s life. There’s a lot of discussion in Picard season two about the nature of connectedness. Q’s kind of a great lightning rod for that because in some ways he’s one of Picard’s deepest — not deep in the same way that Riker is or Beverly Crusher was — but in its own uniquely, profoundly deep relationship.

The second season of Star Trek: Picard arrives on Paramount+ (and only Paramount+) next year. You can catch up with last season and everything Star Trek on the service right now.
