Would you like to have all of Magic: the Gathering’s 25,000 unique cards at your fingertips? Yes, Scryfall exists but the MTG Companion app though.

After a new update for the Magic: the Gathering companion app, imaginatively titled: Magic: the Gathering Companion, you can now use your Magic: Companion to search through the entire library of more than 25,000 unique cards without having to click over to a new tab.

The latest version of Magic: the Gathering Companion includes a new card database search feature which appears as a new menu option on the app’s home bar–by clicking on the Cards icon, you can open up the database and search through the vast library of cards. As you might expect from a searchable database, you can search for cards with a variety of filters, including by name:

Or Mana Value, Rules Text, Card Type or Subtype:

Or any of these terms available in early access:

  • Card Name: Standard card name entry
  • Rules Text: For example, to find all cards that say “flying”
  • Card Type: To see which flyers are also artifacts
  • Color: To specify which color of spells you’re looking for (including “none”)
  • Mana Value: For finding the card that has a specific mana value or fits within a range of values
  • Power: To find the hardest hitting creature
  • Toughness: To find the toughest critter on the block
  • Format: To narrow the range of cards your search looks through to only the ones legal for your deck
  • Expansion: For finding the perfect card from a specific Magic set
  • Rarity: To make sure you get the common, uncommon, rare, or mythic rare you need
  • Artist: To find the image illustrated by your favorite Magic artist
  • Mark (not Rosewater!): To identify watermarks on your card, like the Simic guild or Temur clan

You still can’t quite search for “lore text” or by different, specific card criteria like whether or not it has a token associated with it, or to see if a card has been printed exactly once, so it doesn’t exactly duplicate what you’d get from Scryfall. But this is just early access and the Companion app will also let you manage and join local game events, and if you’re looking for a quick and easy integration, this is going to give you what you need to make sure your drafting goes the way you want it to, instead of the way it typically goes at BoLS HQ where we try to play five color good stuff and nobody wins.

Have you tried the Companion app? Let us know in the comments!
