In this post, I want to quickly introduce you to a new voice concentrating specifically on Canadian Wargaming.

James (of the Rabbits in My Basement) and Mike (of The Mad Padre’s Wargames Page) team up to start a new podcast. With it, they aim to focus on the Canadian miniatures wargaming scene. Both of these guys come with plenty of Wargaming experience. James runs one of the best gaming conventions that I have ever attended. That event he named Hotlead, which occurs yearly in Stratford, Ontario, Canada. This event was actually what drew me back into the hobby after many years away.

Below are a couple of pictures from the 2019 event. I am really looking forward to their 2022 event. 2020 and 2021 could not run due to the pandemic.

At the event, they run all sorts of games. Hotlead provides a home to a plethora of Historical, Indy and Alternative wargames. They sometimes even have some GW games, but like my focus, 40K is not theirs either. Check out this game ran by Dave Winters at the 2019 convention. It was a lot of fun and mixed 28mm pulp miniatures with Cthulhu.

These long time Wargamers (Mike and James) take those historical alternative games and hyper focus in on Canada with their brand new Podcast.

The Canadian Wargamer Podcast

They call this podcast The Canadian Wargamer. Their name makes a lot of sense. They focus on the Canadian Miniatures Wargaming scene. They also bring on Canadian guests who either own companies or are leaders in the hobby.

Personally, I found the podcast a very interesting to listen. They bring on a number of interesting guests all relevant to the gaming scene. After the first episode, each one so far contains a guest prominent in the Canadian scene.

If you haven’t checked it out, give it a quick listen and see if it is something you might enjoy. You can find The Canadian Wargamer on PodBean. You can also find the current listings on my website too.
