It’s not all lightning and dragons in the Realms.

The past couple of weeks, the new AoS hotness has been the return of the dragons, which have unsurprisingly allied themselves with Sigmar and his Stormcast. Alongside the other menagerie of beasties at their disposal, this puts Stormcast at the top of the monstrous cavalry race. However, they are certainly not the only runners, and a few awesome contenders are trampling the Realms underfoot, whether as ridden creatures or amalgamations of warrior and beast. So, just in case you forgot them, here are 5 monstrous cavalries that might be able to go claw-to-claw with these new dragons.

Khorne Juggernauts

These massive amalgamations of living brass and angry daemon rhino are an incredible sight on the battlefield and a force of destruction fitting the Blood God. Whether ridden by Khornate Daemons or hulking armored warriors, these behemoths smash everything they run into and then keep going. If the Stormcast dragons ever make the mistake of landing in front of these beasts, they might not get the chance to take off again.

Dragon Ogors

A chaotic combination between ravenous Ogor and rampaging drake, the warriors of the Thunderscorn are a terrifying sight to behold. Able to channel lightning into healing energy or empower their weapons with titanic power, the Dragon Ogors and their Shaggoth chieftains have the potential to decimate smaller-sized units completely and can hold their own against fellow big guys as well. Even with their own mastery over lightning, I hope the Stormcast have invested in some rubber armor, or they might be on the receiving end of a lightning bolt with teeth.

Mournfangs

It takes a massive monster to bear an Ogor into battle, but the leonine Mournfangs do the job to peak efficiency. These huge sabertooth cats are almost more deadly than the ogors they carry to war and likely would hold that title if not for the ogors’ pistols. Combined with the incredible strength of the hunters on their backs, these death kittens will be more than a match for just about anything you throw at them.

Rot Flies

Nurgle has admittedly gotten the short end of the stick in Age of Sigmar recently, but even so, we can’t deny the horrifying potency of the humble Rot Fly. Able to bear either a gooey Nurgling or an equally gooey but also armored Nurgle Warrior into battle, the Rot Flies are ponderous but dangerous monstrosities. I certainly wouldn’t want to see one hovering towards me, if only for the stench.

Demigryphs

While it isn’t likely that a unit of Demigryphs will be going up against the Stormcast, it stands to reason that not EVERY city is super into Sigmar’s rule and that certain Chambers of Stormcast might be a bit overly militant. Still, it cannot be denied that these beaky boys are a powerhouse on the battlefield and the likely inspiration for Sigmar to create the Gryph-chargers. If the knightly lances don’t get you, the razor-sharp claws certainly will.
