War Zone Octarius has an boost to the Synaptic Links of the Tyranids. Let’s take a quick look at how it works!

The Tyranids ended up in the Octarius sector thanks to Inquisitor Kryptman. This led to a brutal and bloody conflict that pit the Orks vs the Tyranids in a war for dominance. Unfortunately for Kryptman’s plan, this has only made each side even stronger. We’ve gotten a look at how the Orks have benefited (looking at you Beast Snaggas). But now we’re getting some hints at how the Tyranids have adapted.

via Warhammer Community

“Synaptic Links allow larger Tyranid bioforms to extend a portion of their innate strengths to nearby units. Each synapse creature has its own unique ability, so stealthy Broodlords can guide swarms of chittering beasties through the shadows making your squishier units much more resistant to gunfire as they creep within clawing range of the enemy. “

Well that’s certainly going to help with getting your little guys into striking distance. For 15 points extra this seems like a good option to include regardless.  And it’s not just Broodlords…

“Neurothropes can project an aura of psychic dread through fast-moving units, like flocks of Gargoyles, ensuring a weakened enemy unit is liable to flee from the field no matter where they are.”

Creeping dread spreading through the enemy lines? -1 Leadership and an addition -1 from Combat Attrition tests? Okay…color me interested.  So what if these abilities could, I dunno, stack in some way?

“You can choose any unit within the Synaptic Link Range as the target,* normally 12” around the unit with the ability. Better still, because the Hive Mind can flow freely through the brains of its many bioforms, other Synapse units boost the range of the ability merely by being within 12”, even if they don’t have that specific buff themselves.”

Wait, what? I’m going to need a diagram or something to help visualize this one. Oh GW made one? Thanks.

So…If I’m understanding this one correctly, by having overlapping links you can extend the range of your Synaptic Link abilities? That seems like a unique thing the Tyranids will have and could have some serious potential. I’m curious and would like to know more.

“Many more Tyranid-flavoured goodies are hidden within the pages of War Zone Octarius – Book 1: Rising Tide, so keep your eyes peeled for more reports from the war-torn sector. “

Oh, what!? You’re just going to leave us hanging GW? It’s almost like you want us to read the book when it comes out or something. Okay, fine. You got me. I’ll check out the book when it comes out.

But seriously, as a Tyranid player myself, I’ve been waiting for SOMETHING from the Octarius Sector regarding the ‘Nids. This is literally one of my favorite battlegrounds/war zones in all of 40k. Mostly because it doesn’t involve the Imperium (mostly). It’s Orks vs Tyranids and it is just an epic throwdown. So when we first started getting info about Octarius and there was very little ‘Nid News, I was pretty bummed. But now…this is good news. I’d really like to know what else GW has in store for my bugs and hope they get some serious updates soon.

What are you thinking of these new Synaptic Buffs? Do you think we’ll see more?
