I don’t think this was in doubt after this weekend, but part two of Paul’s story has been confirmed with a release date.

When the project was announced in 2019 it was mentioned that this was a two-part story, and it’s been talked about in interviews since. This was made clear again with the opening titles and the lack of an ending when Dune: Part One arrived in theaters. And it’s made a decent amount at the box office. Dune ran up against several challenges– mixed reviews, the pandemic, and a dual release – but has still pulled in $223.2 million globally (so far).

This morning the studios and director behind the whole project confirmed that part two is a go.

“Legendary is pleased to officially move forward with Dune: Part Two…once again based on the amazing books written by Frank Herber. We would not have gotten to this point without the extraordinary vision of Denis and the amazing work of his talented crew, the writers, our stellar cast, our partners at Warner Bros., and of course the fans! Here’s to more Dune.”

Director Denis Villeneuve shared in a statement:

“I just received news from Legendary that we are officially moving forward with Dune: Part Two. It was a dream of mine to adapt Frank Herbert’s Dune and I have the fans, the cast, and crew, Legendary and Warner Bros. to thank for supporting this dream. This is only the beginning.”

Warner Bros. chairman Toby Emmerich dropped the release date in his statement:

“Denis Villeneuve has crafted a film that is both visually extraordinary and emotionally transporting, as evidenced by its global success both critically and at the box office. We are thrilled to continue on this journey with Denis and his cast and crew, and our partners at Legendary, and can’t wait to bring the next chapter of this epic tale to theaters in October 2023.”

If you were holding out on seeing part one till you knew the story would have a conclusion, it’s safe. Go see it before it leaves theaters!
