Atomic Mass Games is updating the Guardians of the Galaxy in Marvel: Crisis Protocol and things are looking up for the scrappy crew!

Marvel: Crisis Protocol has a ton of new characters in the game now and with that Atomic Mass Games is doing a rebalancing pass. We already mentioned that the Core Characters are getting some updates and now AMG is taking aim at the Guardians of the Galaxy with a new batch of updates.

“Designed right alongside the Core Set and many of the other characters we will be talking about in future articles in this series, the Guardians were certainly the characters we took the most risks on in terms of stretching the bounds of what was possible in Crisis Protocol. We took an off the wall approach to their leadership and built in some very thematic synergies in ways that no other characters or affiliations really had seen yet with things like Rocket and Groot and how they each amplified the other through their superpowers and Team Tactic cards. As with everything, though, as our understanding of the game grew from both our continued reps with developing and designing new characters as well as watching play patterns emerge once players had Crisis Protocol in their hands, we saw that some of our risks paid off and some fell just a little short of where we wanted everything to sit within the bell curve of balance within the game. “

Star-Lord

Winging It now no longer takes anything to use (in terms of Team Tactic Cards, that is). Hit and Run has also been updated to keep Star-Lord tactically flexible. It really plays into his “stay largely mid-field” strategy.

Gamora

Gamora gained a Stamina on both sides which should make her that much harder to Daze or KO’d with a single attack. She’s also gotten some Stealth to go along with her Martial Prowess.

Rocket Racoon And Groot

Groot got a pair of adjustments. First up, the range of his strike went up from 2 to 3. That should better reflect his powerset from the Comics. However, Groot also has some potent healing abilities and because of extended range AMG needed to turn down the heals a bit. His Living Plant ability is now once per turn.

Rocket’s Personal Bodyguard ability went up from range 1 to range 2. That extra range should make the pair of Rocket and Groot even more dynamic on the tabletop. Rocket also gained a completely new Super Power called Nimble. This power makes it so the common practice of tossing Groot into him to take Rocket out is not effective. It also fits with the dexterous Racoon’s skill set.

There are more changes that you can read about HERE. Atomic Mass Games has done a great job of outlining all the updates and the reasons why. So check that out if you want to get more behind the scenes action from Marvel: Crisis Protocol.

These changes should make the Guardians of the Galaxy better overall and should better align them with current state of the game. AMG is taking all those lessons learned since the launch and doing a great job of rebalancing these great characters. I can’t wait to see how all these changes shake out!
