The latest look at Morbius promises a movie you can sink your fangs into. But does it mean that we’ll see Morbius in the Spiderverse?

One of Spider-Man’s lesser-known foes is coming to the big screen next year. Doctor Michael Morbius is a Nobel award-winning physician who succumbed to a rare blood disease. To fight it, he turned himself into a blood-sucking monster in search of a cure. And thanks to the new trailer, we may have seen our first looks at Morbius in the Spiderverse.

This week has been a good week for blood-suckers. We also got a behind-the-scenes look with lead actor Jared Leto yesterday.

via Sony Entertainment

Sony followed up with a brand-new trailer that has more completed shots than the first look we got nearly two years ago.

It also shows what Morbius can do– he’s a real bat man with super powers that help him hear, smell, and feel more intensely. No gadgets or dead parents needed.

Will We See Morbius in the Spiderverse?

This looks like a modern comic book movie. And the trailer makes it pretty clear that Michael Morbius is tied into the live-action Spiderverse that Sony is building.

For one, Morbius references Venom in this trailer. Add that to this spoiler for Venom 2, the Adrian Toomes aka Vulture cameo, and you’ve got a team of Peter Parker’s villains forming. Yeah. We’re definitely gonna see Morbius in the Spiderverse.

It also showcases Leto’s ability to act through special effects make-up and his weird comedic timing.

One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease.

The Morbius Cast

The cast is led by Jared Leto as Dr. Michael Morbius, and includes Michael Keaton, Matt Smith, Jared Harris, Adria Arjona, Tyrese Gibson, and Corey Johnson. The movie is directed by Daniel Espinosa (Life) from a script by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (The Last Witch Hunter).

Are you excited to see Morbius in the Spiderverse? Morbius hits theaters on January 28, 2022.
