There’s a Black Templar Combat Patrol on the way and we’re taking a closer look at the box and it’s overall value.

The second wave of Black Templar kits are on the way and it’s a big one. We got a look at the pricing earlier and retailers are saying there is also a Black Templar Combat Patrol on the way, too. What’s odd is we have yet to see the official GW announcement about the Combat Patrol Box even though it showed up on line awhile back. Regardless, we know the contents (mostly) and now that we have the pricing, we can figure out what sort of a deal this Combat Patrol ends up being for players. So let’s take closer look!

Black Templar Combat Patrol $140

Reported Contents:

  • Impulsor x1
  • Marshal x1
  • Crusader Squad x10 (Sword Brother x1, 5x Initiates, 4x Neophites)
  • Intercessor Squad x5
  • *BT Upgrade Sprue (Intercessors & Impulsor has BT bits)

*We’re not 100% clear if this is just the BT Upgrade Sprue or the full Upgrades and Transfers.

Pricing Breakdown:

Impulsor $75

Black Templar Marshal $32

Crusader Squad $60

Black Templar Intercessor Squad (5-man) $45 – Based on the Blood Angels Death Company Box

Total Individual MSRP: $212

Total Savings: $72

You might be wondering why we used the Blood Angels Death Company Intercessors as a price comparison point. Well, that box also contains 5 Intercessors AND an upgrade sprue. So, assuming the Combat Patrol is just a single BT Upgrade Sprue (typically a $14 MSRP value) and it IS a 5-man Intercessor Squad (with an MSRP of 1/2 of a full squad at $60) then that price point of $45 is close enough.

The full BT Upgrades and Transfers set is $32, so if that is included (which it could be) then that jumps the MSRP value up from $212 to $229. The increase in savings go to $89. In either case you’re getting over a 30% discount vs purchasing these kits individually.

The final question we have is “overall, is this a good purchase?” Based on the units included it seems like a pretty good starting point for a Black Templar Army. This Combat Patrol includes the core units you need to launch a new Black Templar Crusade. If you’re a veteran Black Templar player it’s packed full of new Primaris stuff to add to your existing collection. That seems like a great deal for both types of players.
