Watch the good doctor go from the verge of death to a powerful, hungry threat in this Morbius sneak peek.

Doctor Michael Morbius is a Nobel award-winning physician with a rare blood disease. Sounds like a Hallmark drama– until you learn that he accidentally turns himself into a blood-sucking monster in search of a cure.

Who is Morbius?

He was one of the first vampires to join the Marvel canon after the Comics Code Authority lifted the supernatural-characters ban in the early 1970s. Roy Thomas and Gil Kane created him as a tragic, nearly nose-less antagonist for Spider-Man.

Morbius Sneak Peek

He keeps more of his nose in the movie but hasn’t lost any of the blood lust or sheer power. This 3-minute Morbius sneak peek shows the good doctor giving in to his inner monster for the first time. The crew of mercenaries in his way doesn’t stand a chance.

I get that the character isn’t exactly on the A or B or C list when it comes to solo movie picks, but I’m not against a big-budget horror comic adaptation. I’m a bit disappointed they went for a PG-13 instead of an R rating. The action and character could use the room in the same way Venom could have.

I like the character design that gives Leto a mouth of fangs and a sunken, corpselike face. It’s doing a great job at being terrifying.

But making this Morbius the Living Vampire this bloodless is a mistake. Morbius should be gore-soaked in this phase of his character development. We’ll have to see if they can balance the look of the monster and his actions in a way that makes sense.

One of the most compelling and conflicted characters in Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters comes to the big screen as Oscar winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. While at first, it seems to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed. Will good override evil – or will Morbius succumb to his mysterious new urges?
