Teclis’ New Year’s resolution should be to bless his forgotten children.

Here we are, a brand new year with a ton of exciting new models on the horizon (I mean, have you SEEN that preview video?). From what little we’ve seen so far, one of the most exciting things on the horizon is the Fury of the Deep battlebox, which pits the Fyreslayers against the Idoneth Deepkin, both armies that I love. Alongside a considerable collection of minis, we’ve seen that we’re going to get two brand new heroes, one for each faction, and you know what that means: new battletomes.

I talked about what I hope the duardin get last week, but I don’t want to neglect my salty bois, and they are certainly due for a few upgrades (they are like Fyreslayers in that they have barely any choices). With that said, here are three things that I hope show up in the new Idoneth book that will bring them more in line with the more up-to-date armies.

Monster Mount for Heroes

It seems like everyone and their Uncle Larry is getting to ride in on a giant monster these days, and 3.0 certainly rewards the use of big beasties in combat. However, the only monster available to the Idoneth is the Leviadon, and while it certainly isn’t a push-over, it doesn’t have quite the same punch as things like a Zombie Dragon or a Stardrake. An easy fix would be to put one of the Isharann on the big turtle in the same manner as the Skink Chief on Stegadon, or even a brand new style of priest, but I’d also love to see an Akhelian Prince on the back of a massive shark or something like that. Make my Aquaman dreams happen, GW!!

Akhelian Infantry/Mounted Namarti

The Akhelian elite of the Idoneth are exclusively on the backs of eels, and rightfully so, as it shows their status among the other Idoneth and lets them sail over the heads of the Namarti. However, with the brand new foot hero, this is the perfect time to bring in some Akhelian footsoldiers to run to battle alongside him, with improved armor and weapons. I’d love to see what the elites can do on foot, bringing sword and shield to bear against their enemies with their heightened skill.

Conversely, I think it would be cool to see the blind Idoneth mounted on some sea beasts, maybe a giant octopus or something, though I don’t know how well that would fit. Still, it would be a neat addition of some fast cavalry to put some Reavers on fast aquatic mounts and provide a similar makeup as Teclis’s OTHER children.

Like this… but with fish!

Endless Spells

Like monsters, most of the recent releases have come with Endless Spells, and I think that the children of Teclis should definitely have some, even if he wasn’t particularly happy with them. While Endless Spells do seem to be fading out of vogue, adding some awesome sea-related spells like summoning a shoal of predatory ghost fish or summoning spectral phantasms of the deep to shake their will to fight. Anything honestly would be cool, and with everything the Idoneth can already do, it makes sense for them to have a few powerful permanent spells.

What Deepkin changes are you hoping for?
