The Ossiarch Bonereapers have gotten some important updates from White Dwarf. These could be game changers for the undead constructs.

When the new edition launched I was pretty bummed about the status of my Ossiarch Bonereapers. It seemed like everyone had just gotten better versions of their unique rules and they got…pretty much nothing from the new Edition. Everyone was getting Command Points and had new Command Abilities, Heroic Actions, and more. OBR got…limits on how they could use Relentless Discipline. It was not a good time. But a new FAQ was on the way.

And then the first FAQ came out. And I was left pretty unimpressed. While it did address some issues there was still some big holes left to fill. I think GW knew that there was more to be done. Especially when you looked at the Meta Rankings they posted a few weeks later:

OBR were sitting at 9th…from the bottom. Not the bottom of the barrel. But not too far off either.

They had some room to improve. So fast forward to now. We’ve got a new White Dwarf out this weekend and it looks promising. It doesn’t fix every issue that I have, but it does open up some new options and give the OBR players out there some new tools to compete. The point is that OBR players are going to want to get a copy of the White Dwarf.

New Ossiarch Bonereaper Rules From White Dwarf

We’re going to focus on the Matched Play changes because those are the big ones in terms of the AoS Meta. They are also the more important rules if you want to play in tournaments. The Open and Path to Glory play sections are actually good, too — but if you want those, go buy the White Dwarf already!

The First Page of rules just explains the basics. And note the uh…note in the top left. These are official changes to the Battletome. The good news is that the RDP generation is basically what we were all used to from the FAQ. It gets more interesting on the next page…

Ossiarch Bonereapers get a pair of new command abilities they can spend their Relentless Discipline on. Reknit Constructs is basically Rally. Which is nice! The second ability is also quite good, too. It allows you to get a back-to-back activation from a Hero unit and a supporting non-hero unit. Have your Hero lead the attack and then have the supporting unit mop-up! I like it.

There’s also the new Heroic Actions that you’ll get. The first one is the Relentless Leadership. Pick an OBR Hero and when they spend their Relentless Discipline point, you don’t spend the point. And it starts in the Hero Phase and lasts the entire turn. Man, that would be really good with a character that had a Command Ability that you can use in different phases…

The next Heroic Action is Necromantic Mastery. This one allows you to cast a 1 spell that turn that cannot be unbound! That’s fantastic for when you need that spell to go off.

Even More Changes – Strategies and Tactics

The Ossiarch Bonereapers also received a bunch of new Battle Tactics and a new Grand Strategy. The Grand Strategy is basically finish a game with your Mortek Guard or Kavalos at full strength. Which, with how much recursion you can build into your list, shouldn’t be too hard (if you were already winning). And the new Battle Tactics are pretty good, too. 2 of them feel like pretty easy points to pick-up while the third is great for when you’re going after enemy heroes or monsters.

These changes are welcome changes. I would have liked to see an option to use a Redeploy style Command Ability…but this is a good start. Unfortunately, this probably means the OBR aren’t due for a new book for a bit. Oh well. At least these changes are interesting enough that they make me want to play my army again. We’ll see how that goes!
