Here are the comics on my pull list Jan. 19th, 2022!

Pull List for January 19, 2022

Marvel & DC Comics

She-Hulk #1 – A preview for this issue shows Jen making water-cooler chatter with Titania as the two throw down. Clearly, Jen is looking to make friends and influence people in this upcoming series.

As with any good Walters-at-Law story, we can expect equal parts dazzling personal life and courtroom entertainment. The series will also throw Jen and her readers a big twist. There could be big changes on the horizon for She-Hulk.

She-Hulk is one of my favorite character, and her books have been some of my favorites. I can’t wait to see if Rainbow Rowell and artist Rogê Antônio give us a classic fourth-wall break.

Silk #1– Silk is an Agent of A.T.L.A.S. and journalist. She’s is living with her brother in New Yor, but they’ve missed the last decade on account of being locked in a bunker. Now, Cindy Moon is surrounded by the modern world… and TikTok.

It’s a mighty big change for our hero and her story. With Emily Kim at the helm, Silk will face a new villain. And in her down-time, Cindy will have to learn to live a normal life.

If you love the art in this book, be sure to check out artist Takeshi Miyazawa’s YouTube channel takmiyazawa art TV. There, you can watch him sketch some really great commissions. I also recommend his wholesome-AF series about Japanese figure-vending machines called Gacha Gacha.

Robins #3– A gang of junior Super Criminals are using holographic tech to fashion themselves to look like Batman’s greatest foes. These rejected super-villain sidekicks are  funhouse-mirror foes for this round of Robins.

But the big fight reveals a darker clue: these imitation bad-guys have access to knowledge they shouldn’t have. But how did they gain access to Batman’s files?

I’ll be playing catch-up on this series for no reason other than I just love a good Robin yarn. And this was has them all! Batman author Tim Seeley and artist Baldemar Rivas round up Dick, Jason, Stephanie, Tim, and Damian for this fan-requested tale.

Cursed Pirate Girl: Devil’s Cave #1

After more than a decade, the Cursed Pirate Girl is back. She first appeared in Jeremy Bastian’s fantastical pirate tale about a young pirate girl searching for her missing father.

Now, can she escape the Sea King’s palace and bring her father back? And what kind of uniquely whimsical ocean creatures will she meet in this adventure? I’m willing to risk the high seas to find out.

Pull List: Graphic Novels

Pull List Jan 19 2022

Junk Wraith

Ellinor Richey provides script and art for this story about the beloved objects we abandon. Florence Sato loves to ice-skate, but the pressure of performing pushes her to cast aside her treasured skates. In doing so, she summons a “junkwraith”. Now, she’ll have to fight her way across the Wastelands to defend her memories.

Fans of shows like Adventure Time will really appreciate this read. Me, it’s me. I love the use of bright colors and cute anthropomorphic technology to explore dark emotional themes.

Compass Vol. 1

Writers Robert Mackenzie & Dave Walker take readers back in time to Baghdad during the 13th-century Islamic Golden Age. Shahidah El-Amin is on the hunt for a secret artifact that unlocks the key to eternal life. But all she finds on her quest are betrayal and adventure.

I love a premise that explores aspects of myth from a non-Western, uncolonized lens. Compass is pure pulp action with new kind of classic hero.

Pull List Jan 19 2022

Magical Boy Vol. 1

I hope you’ve been exercising your squee muscles, because Magical Boy is a new and joyful take on the Magical Girl genre. The story was originally published as a webcomic. Now, The Kao’s popular series comes to print.

Max is a trans boy whose family has a magical secret. He’ll have to find his own way to save the day when he’s called to join a long line of Magical Girls who protect the world from evil. This charming tale comes complete with a magical cat sidekick and a crew of best friends.

I love a good Magical Girl world. This will definitely be my warm-and-fuzzy read for the week.
