Spotted on Amazon, The Game Master’s Book of Legendary Dragons promises epic encounters from some interesting names.

A new 5th Edition book has been spotted on Amazon! The Game Master’s Book of Legendary Dragons takes aim at dragons. And while this is a D&D book, it’s not published by Wizards of the Coast.

This dragon doesn’t fit neatly into one of the extant categories, but we still wouldn’t want to fight it

Legendary Dragons appears on Amazon, where it identifies itself as a book for “5th Edition RPG adventures.” Which makes it clear this is another OGL publication.

But it seems a number of designers from WotC past and present are involved—as well as Luke Gygax, founder of GaryCon and D&D luminary in his own right. Other authors include Dan Dillon, a game designer at WotC and Kobold Press alum, as well as James J. Haeck, whose name you’ll recognize from Tal’dorei Campaign Setting Reborn.

The Game Master’s Book of Legendary Dragons has no small amount of playful ribbing—or shots fired, depending—about the state of Dragons in a game that ends with ‘& Dragons’. On the book’s Amazon description, you’ll find statements like:

“Even with the benefit of high-profile gaming supplements, they’ve become generic monsters”

Which is absolutely true. Dragons need a bit of love and spit and polish. Especially in 5th Edition D&D. Which is why I’m excited to see what this book has to offer. Of course, we’ll have to wait until September to find out. But that does mean more D&D books to delve into this year.

The Game Master’s Book of Legendary Dragons – $29.99

Game Masters and players alike are familiar with dragons and the threat they present in the world’s most popular tabletop roleplaying game. They’ve become so well-known, however, that some might say the magic has worn off them a bit. Even with the benefit of high-profile gaming supplements, they’ve become generic monsters, making the dragons in “Dungeons & Dragons” a shadow of their former imposing selves.

In The Game Master’s Book of Legendary Dragons, readers will find more than two dozen truly epic beasts, each of which comes with a complete backstory, a history, motivations, lair actions, legendary combat actions and more. These creatures are designed to be a worthy focus to any campaign, whether as a mind-blowing BBEG for a unforgettable, high-level climax, or as a motivating force that runs in the background of a lower level adventure.

Game Masters will also find new dragon-kin, wyverns, drakes, kobolds and dragon races, plus new dragon-related organizations, skills, classes and magic, including dragon riders, dragon hunters, enhanced spells, aerial combat and airship options, dragon cults, magic items and more.

The Game Master’s Book of Legendary Dragons will provide endless ideas for Game Masters and countless hours of epic-level fun for adventurers willing to test their mettle against the baddest beasts the game has to offer.

The Game Master’s Book of Legendary Dragons is due out in September. We’re excited to see dragon cults. If there’s one thing D&D needs, it’s more Dragon Cults.

Happy Adventuring!
