Goatboy’s Warhammer 40K: Grimdark Resolutions

Goatboy here with some competitive 40k grimdark resolutions for this coming year.

I am hoping to keep on the competitive train and while things have spiked I do have faith we can be safe and sound throwing dice like bosses on the table top.  With that in mind – here are my resolutions for the year.

#1 – Play Chaos Space Marines In a Competitive Tournament

It’s been too long since I played a pure CSM army and I am hoping with the new boxed set will bring a swath of new rules.  The bits and pieces have me excited.  I just hope the army is decent enough to give me the sweet 50-55% win average to showcase a decent army.  I don’t want something that wins 75% of the time as that leads to nerfs, unfun interactions, and shifts in the army as you have to fill it out different ways.  We’ll see and I have high hopes for this year.

#2 – Complete a Showcase Army With a Sweet Display Board

I always half-assed my display boards. While I like to see cool ones I didn’t like to push them around the tabletops.  I want to try and make a sweet one for an army that is designed to be painted well.  It needs to be done well enough to maybe motivate me towards some overall wins.  I got some ideas and will see as we wait on some new releases this next year.

#3 – Go to More Events

This next year I want to play in more events.  It seems events are the only time I get to play. The home life is busy with growing kids, busy work, and just trying to get things done.  This means I need to go to events to get my dice rolling addiction fulfilled as well as see more friends etc.

#4 – Get a T-shirt Site Up

I draw a lot of things and I like to see them on shirts.  This means I need to just bite the bullet and get one set up to showcase some of my art and mash ups I like to do.  Will see if it will work out but it would fun.

#5 – Actually Get Some Practice In With Armies

I told you I really only get to play at events. This next year I want to try and fix some of that with playing some people locally.  It has been a long time since I was really a part of the local scene and there is a whole slew of new players out there.  I am hoping to at least figure out something for once a month but we’ll see.

#6 – Make Sure I Have Fun AND My Opponents Have a Good Time

I am normally pretty good with games and not getting to upset at the dice. But if I plan on playing more it means the frustrations of losing might become a much harder pill to swallow.  I think stopping and thinking that this is a game and there are 2 people involved is a great step in moving towards the right direction of not being a jerk.

Hello 2022!

That grimdark resolutions should set up me for a great year if we get to keep on playing.  I know we have a ton of new books coming so this year looks to be an exciting one.  If you see me at an event (usually wearing a Golden Girls shirt or a hot pink hoodie) come say hi.  If you end up facing me in an event know we are about to have a good time as some kind of nonsense is running across the table top to try and steal the candy your army is hiding.
