Stupid Craftworld Eldar getting all the new stuff…

Eldar are getting some crazy new models. It’s nice for them I guess. But let’s talk about the faction that really matters, Space Marines.

What Was Announced

Over December GW teased us with a series of rumor pics via their Advent Calendar. People rightly guessed that a number of these were for new Eldar models. This was then confirmed with the announcement of Eldritch Omens. This new box set promises new and improved Eldar models. This was followed by more teasers. This week GW has announced new Guardians are coming, to the delight of Eldar players all over. All these hints and announcement point to a large Eldar release this year.

But What About My Space Marines??

Looks it’s nice for Xenos players that at long last are getting new Eldar models. That’s cool. But everyone knows that Space Marines are the coolest and best army in the game. And dang it, we haven’t gotten any new Marine announcements ALL YEAR! The most recent new Marines were just a couple models. And that was LAST YEAR. This Xenos favoritism is crazy. When will Marines actually get what they deserve?

My Manifesto

It’s unconscionable that Marines have gone this long without a new announcement. Without a constant stream of Marine releases what will I do with my life? I demand…

No.

No.

Naw.

I can’t do it. I can’t keep this bit going. Sorry.

New Eldar, It’s ABOUT TIME!new eldar avatar 2021

Seriously. Eldar are one of the oldest races in 40K (both real world and lore wise). They also have one of the oldest model ranges out there. Many of their models are aren’t even from this millennium.  The range doesn’t just predate most current players getting into the game, it predates their birth. The age of their models is both an in-joke among players and a testament to the amazing skills of the early GW model makers. The Eldar refresh is amazing news to all players. It shows a commitment to the race and to bringing new energy to them.

Hype To 11

Joking aside, pretty much anytime we get a non-Marine announcement I’m excited. And yeah, GW couldn’t resist putting out a few Marine models in the meantime (and will likely drop a new Marine update soon).  Still, this is a great thing. What makes it really hype-inducing is that this does seem like the major “Necron Style” update we’ve been asking for. The past couple “updates” have really just upgraded the models for one or so units.

Based on the teasers we’ve gotten, this looks like it is going to affect a large swath of units. We’ve see bits that hint at most of the core infantry units (the oldest units) getting updated. We’ve also seen hints at character and monster updates. This is all great news.

A Combined Codex?

There have been a lot of rumors about some sort of combined Aeldari book in the works. This has been said to included both Craftworld and Ynnari. It’s also been rumored that maybe Harlequins and even Drukhari could all be rolled into the book. I do think that Drukhari, which have a large range (and lots of problems) and distinct flavor, sounds a bit much. Harlequins on the other hand haven’t super jelled as an independent army and have a very small list, that hasn’t gotten any  real expansions. I could see them getting rolled in.

Bring On the New Eldar

We got something of a hint at this, when GW noted that the new Guardians would have heads to support them being Ynnari. (The kits also has new models/weapons hinted at more changes than just slightly updated models). This suggests to me that we are going to see more of a combined large book to really bring the Aeldari back to the forefront of the game. And while I’ll probably complain about cheaty Eldar being good again, I’m actually very happy that a long overdue update is happening. At least so we can get them taken care of to get back to releasing more Primaris LTs. Hopefully dead LTs on new Eldar bases!

Let us know which Primaris LT GW should make next, down in the comments!
