Ron Perlman Wants to Be Hellboy Again For the Fans

2 Minute Read
Jan 31 2022

The only big red guy accepted by fans has been Ron Perlman for decades– now he’s saying he’s willing to come back.

Perlman talked about his relationship with Guillermo del Toro during an interview hyping up their latest movie Nightmare Alley. This inevitably led to a conversation about Hellboy. The two have planned on doing a third and final chapter. It just hasn’t been in the cards and no one is getting any younger.

That doesn’t mean the actor isn’t still game to take on the part one last time.

“Am I eager to do Hellboy 3? No, I’m 71 f***ing years old. We owe this to the fans, and we should give it to them because it would be an epic conclusion. So Guillermo, if you’re reading, I’m not done pounding you to get this f**king thing done.”

Do I think this will happen? Probably not. I’d like to see the story finished out, but at this point I think animation is the best way to do it. You get Perlman’s voice acting (and anyone else that wants to join) without having to put him at risk and an ending.

Hellboy’s adventures are not stranger to animation. A trio of movies have been put out over the years: Blood and Iron, Sword of Storms, and The Dark Below. I like the animation style of this fan made short better than what those offered. It could be fantastic with some polish.

Del Toro has been involved in several stop motion projects, as well. Maybe take in the direction of his upcoming Pinocchio adaptation. There are ways to do something great without risking anyone’s health.

By the way – I highly suggest reading Perlman’s full expletive peppered interview, which you can do here.
