Red Notice director Rawson Marshall Thurber will spearhead a “Flagship D&D TV series” for eOne in the near future. Check it out.

Big news for Dungeons & Dragons as eOne announced earlier that Rawson Marshall Thurber, director of Red Notice will helm a new “flagship D&D TV series” to help build out D&D’s media empire.

This latest move follows eOne’s big goal of building D&D for television. Dungeons & Dragons won’t just be a single TV show, but rather a wide-reaching media franchise. As eOne’s President of Global Television put it:

“We don’t want it to just be one show. [W]e are building out […] a multi-pronged approach for television, a number of scripted shows and unscripted. [W]e hope to be taking this out to the marketplace early next year.”

This new series, written and directed by Thurber, will act as “a cornerstone of the TV universe” as eOne builds their future plans. The flagship D&D tv series is expected to complement the other projects eOne has in the works, including the live action movie starring Rege-Jean Page, Michelle Rodriguez, Christopher Pine, and Hugh Grant, as well as the TV show headed up by John Wick creator Derek Kolstad.

A D&D Media Empire

But we don’t yet know how it will all fit together. We do know that eOne’s plans revolve around the “rich lore” of the D&D universe. With stories that span multiple worlds and genres, D&D can spin into wildly different stories.

Eberron’s gaslamp world makes for pulpy fantasy, while Spelljammer’s spaceships add a dash of sci-fi. This might be why D&D is making a shift to a multiversal model. All we can say for certain is that eOne has big plans for D&D. And that for Thurber, this project is a dream come true.
