We got our hands on the new Eldritch Omens Battle Box and the Aeldari are looking solid. But the Chaos Space Marines…not so much.

The new Eldritch Omens Battle Box is out for pre-order this weekend and Goatboy came in to share some thoughts about the new set. Just a quick note we filmed the video before Games Workshop released all the new rules for the Aeldari. We’ve added those down below for reference.

At Least The Model Look Cool

Let’s just get this out the way first. Sorry Chaos, you did not get 2 wounds on your marines. BUT the models do look pretty darn cool. And those kits are looking might malleable in terms of how you can physically build your Chaos Chosen. That’s at least neat for hobbyists. Did their rules change? Not really. The Warpsmith probably got the “best” update in that it can take a Thunderhammer. And the Maulerfiend is…well, it’s been out for awhile. So there’s that.

The Aeldari got all the new toys in this box though. There’s a new plastic Autarch, new plastic Rangers, and the completely new Aeldari Shroud Runners. All of which are improvements on their previous versions or (in the case of the Shroud Runners) a completely new unit. This box is your first chance at getting your hands on them as well.

About Those New Rules

So when we got the box, there were some new keywords/abilities that weren’t exactly defined in the rules that the Aeldari had. The good news is that GW put out there rules this past week so players who DO have the Eldritch Omens box before their Aeldari Codex will know how those rules work. Here’s the rules you’ll want to know:

Strands of Fate

We did a longer breakdown of this ability already. It’s kinda like the Faith Points of Sisters…but not.

Battle Focus

Move-shoot-move. Or Advance and shoot with Assault and Pistols at no penalty. Here’s our full breakdown on this one, too.

Shuriken Weapons

Shuriken Weapons get a funky new AP bonus on 6’s to wound now. Note that the Rangers are using “Ranger Long Rifles” that don’t have the Shuriken keyword. But they do have Shuriken Pistols…

The new Aeldari Codex should be coming soon but for now you can start your Pre-orders for Eldritch Omens this weekend.

Eldritch Omens

Swift and savage battle erupts upon the warp-cursed world of Daethe, as Autarch Ghaelyn leads the warriors of Saim-Hann against the Black Legionnaires of Warpsmith D’vok the Unmaker. Deep within the war-torn Nachmund, these two warbands clash over a mighty prize of souls, and a dread technology that could bring damnation down upon an entire race. With the jaws of a warp storm swiftly closing about them and the stakes impossibly high, desperate measures and terrible sacrifices will be required to achieve victory.

This box is packed with new miniatures for both the Craftworld Aeldari and Heretic Astartes. Every Asuryani model, and all of the Chaos Space Marines excluding the Forgefiend, is freshly updated based on classic designs and stylings. This battlebox is the only place to get them right now, and the 32-page booklet will give you rules and missions with which to pit them against each other in brutal combat. Eldritch Omens is a great way to start a new project or add to your existing armies – alternatively, split it with a friend, and play out the campaign missions together! Plus, with the multipart kits in the box, you’ll have all sorts of extra bits left over to customise the rest of your army.

Inside, you’ll find 16 plastic Citadel miniatures, including:

– 1x Autarch, including multiple head options, two torsos, and a wide variety of wargear based on various Aspect Warrior shrines
– 3x Shroud Runners, sleek dual-crewed jetbikes, combining the firepower of Rangers with incredible speed
– 5x Rangers, with plenty of options for different heads and specialised equipment
– 1x Craftworlds transfer sheet

– 1x Warpsmith, with head, accessory, and weapon options
– 5x Chosen, including loads of options for different heads, weapons, and gear
– 1x Forgefiend, which can alternatively be built as a Maulerfiend
– 1x Chaos Space Marines transfer sheet

What do you suppose GW is waiting on to update the Chaos Space Marines?
