Maugan Ra is getting a fantastic new miniature and some scary new rules to match!

The Dark Reaper Phoenix Lord is back to bring the inevitability of death with him. We’re looking forward to seeing this updated visage of death on the tabletop and his new rules are going to speed his targets along to the afterlife.

via Warhammer Community

“As the founder of the Dark Reaper Aspect Shrine, this ghoulish warrior embodies the inevitability of death – many of his victims bite the dust before they even catch sight of his macabre visage. That’s kind of a shame, because Maugan Ra is dressed to kill. Just look at his new miniature, with its ragged pitch-black robes and baroque, bony armour.”

Sick. We’ve seen the miniature before and it’s impressive. But how do this Phoenix Lord’s Rules match the look? See for yourself.

Maugan Ra, Harvester of Souls

“That massive war scythe is called the Maugetar, and it doubles as a deadly shuriken cannon that cuts down enemies with shrieking discs of wraithbone.”

Heh…it’s the Maugan Ra Guitar. While the name is funny, the profile for it’s damage is no joke! Assault 6 at 36″ inches with 2 flat damage is already good. Plus it can cause mortal wounds on 6s to wound. That’s a max damage output of 20 if you roll super hot.

It’s also no slouch in close combat with a solid damage profile up close, too. He does have the Battle Focus ability so you’ll be able to move-shoot-move if you need to. Furthermore, he’s so scary that each model he kills counts as two for the purposes of Morale.

On the defensive side of things, he’s no slouch. His armor gives him a 2+ save and he’s got a 4+ invulnerable, too. And, because he’s so fancy, he’s even got a rule that limits the number of wounds he can take per phase!

That’s not the end of the rules for Maugan Ra, but that is the end of the teasers from Games Workshop. They did leave us with a hint that the Aeldari Phoenix Lords might have all gotten some new tricks to play with — but you’ll have to wait to get your hands on the codex to find out!
