Warhammer 40K: The Aeldari Webway Gate Actually Sounds Useful Now

The Aeldari Webway Gate is getting a new tweak to its rules that actually make it worth another look.

With the new Aeldari Codex coming out soon Games Workshop is using the opportunity to update a ton of rules for the army. One such update makes the Webway Portals actually sound like they could be useful battlefield terrain to bring now. Get ready for a not-so subtle surprise assault from the Webway!

“The webway is an ancient warren of extradimensional tunnels and passages that exists in interstitial space separate from both the warp and the material world, used by the Aeldari to travel interstellar distances at speed. And when battle draws near to the network of gates, the Aeldari love nothing more to pop out from the aether like a vengeful genie.”

Webway Gate Just Got Good

The first big change to the Webway Gate is that it’s now practically invincible. The Gates are now “as immune to harm as the terrain that surrounds them.” So if you bring one as part of your fortification option you won’t have to worry about it getting destroyed.

Furthermore, it will also provide Light and Heavy cover to troops that are nearby. Both of these changes are already solid additions to its rules:

Those aren’t the only changes to the Webway Gate. The new Webway Strike really takes the cake for this model:

“The true strength of the gates, however, lies in the ability to set your strongest combat troops up as close as you like to enemy forces. Get within Engagement Range of your target and you’ll even count as having charged, with the added bonus of being safe from Overwatch fire.”

Surprise! Stick this Gate near an important point or objective and force your opponent to close the distance. Then pop out and assault them with your heavy hitters! You’ll need to keep things in reserve but when a screaming mad Avatar comes out of the portal and smashes things to bits…it will all be worth it.

Those strategic reserves are going to be even cheaper to deploy now. There’s no plugging up the Webway Gates and if you get that close you’re going to find yourself in the middle of an unavoidable combat.
