Age of Sigmar: Fyreslayers New Command Ability Is A Perfect Charge Counter

Fierce Counter-Attack for the Fyreslayers just got a rework and it’s going to stop charging units dead.

The Fyreslayers might have short, stunty legs but that doesn’t stop them from having some quick reflexes. Their updated Fierce Counter-Attack command ability makes getting the charge less important for these fiery fighters.

“Once the preserve of the notoriously powerful Hermdar lodge, this renamed ability – which allows your infantry to hit back with a vengeance thanks to the strike-first effect – is now available to all Fyreslayer armies.”

Counter-Attack, Indeed!

This ability (or a different variation on it) used to only be available to a specific sub-faction. But now, it’s an option for all Fyreslayer armies. On the other hand it’s locked into specific units. I think that’s a pretty fair trade for the potential here.

There’s also some funky wording about the positioning and which units would qualify for this command ability:

” The selected unit must be within 3” of an enemy unit that charged this turn, but – crucially – it can’t be within 3” of an enemy unit that hasn’t charged. “

So, for the enemy units, it’s “safe” to charge a Fyreslayer unit that was in engagement range in a previous combat round. However if it’s the first time that unit has been within 3″ (ie you charged them) then the Fyreslayers unit is fair game.

Fierce Counter-Attack can only be used on a unit once per battle. But what a surprise smacking that can be. The Strike-First ability is a potent one. It even has a whole rules section explaining how it works.

The point here is that the Fyreslayer unit is going to get to swing first on the turn it’s been charged. That’s really going to blunt the incoming damage from the charging unit…because they might already be destroyed!

Battletome Fyreslayers is coming to pre-order this weekend! Watch out for the counter-attack.
