Cyberpunk 2077 makes the jump to the tabletop game that inspired it as Netflixes announces a new series. Check it out.

Cyberpunk has come a long way since it was an extremely 80s RPG published in the most extremely 80s year, 1988. Later Cyberpunk became Cyberpunk 2020. And then on to V3.0. In the wake of CD Projekt Red’s collaboration came the fourth edition, Cyberpunk Red.

Through the years, the world of 80s corporate greed gone terribly awry has been closer and closer to reality. The fictional Night City is now the home of a popular video game and soon to be animated series. With the launch of 2077 CD Projekt Red brought creator Mike Pondsmith’s gritty neon future to a new audience.

Now the year 2077 will be a sourcebook for Cyberpunk Red. In an interview with Dicebreaker, Pondsmith revealed that a 2077 sourcebook is in the works.

Cyberpunk 2077 Sourcebooks

Pondsmith confirmed to Dicebreaker earlier this week that there will definitely be a 2077 sourcebook based on the period of Cyberpunk 2077. Though Pondsmith was hesitant to reveal any more about the upcoming project:

“There will be, I can’t say much more than that. I am sworn to secrecy by a bunch of very tall quiet Polish men.”

But before Cyberpunk 2077, Pondsmith has plans to build there naturally. There are plenty of events referenced in Cyberpunk 2077 that could do with fleshing out in the tabletop game. Players might find a sourcebook detailing the events of the Metal Wars, for instance.

Pondsmith outlined R. Talsorian’s plans, stating that they were taking on the details of the Cyberpunk universe up to 2060:

“We go up to about 2060 and then they [CDPR] pick up telling the story from there.”

Pondsmith also confirmed that R. Talsorian is working on new DLC in conjunction with CDPR.

Cyberpunk Edgerunners

But the Cyberpunk 2077 news doesn’t end there. Netflix announced a new animated series, Cyberpunk Edgerunners. And this too is extremely exciting. It’s a collaboration between CD Projekt Red and Studio Trigger that will explore a street kid trying to survive in Night City as they become an Edgerunner.

The series will debut later this year, so keep an eye out for more.

Stay safe, chooms.
