I’m sorry, Fleshborers do what now? Check out the new statline and be amazed at this Hive Fleet evolution.

Tyranids are getting a new Codex and we’re nearing the end of the edition in terms of codexes left. So maybe it shouldn’t be such a surprise that they are packing some serious firepower. What IS shocking is that the firepower is coming from units that we certainly weren’t expecting to pack quite that much of a punch. Termagants and Gargoyles are about to slap hard.

“So now we turn to their armoury. On the slab today we have the ubiquitous fleshborer, the weapon of choice for lowly Termagants and Gargoyles – and unfortunately for the rest of the galaxy, the Magi Biologis report that this biomorph has evolved. Once a humble splat gun, it now resembles a living hose of death.*”

“…an extra 6” Range, a boost to Strength 5, and a pip of Armour Penetration…” Umm, YIKES!

The Fleshborer is strength 5 now with an AP of -1! And those things are going to be wielded by the swarm units like Termagants and Gargoyles! Sure Heavy Bolters got a damage buff but now these beetle launching Fleshborers hit just as hard and will come at you in bigger volleys.

The contents in this box is starting to make a lot more sense.

Fleshborers Are Scary

It doesn’t stop there because an army like the Tyranids is all about synergies. Those Termagants and Gargoyles are also CORE units which means they can benefit from things like the Hive Tyrant’s Will of the Hive Mind. That’s a re-roll for hit rolls of 1. With so many shots, re-rolls are going to be super useful. And there’s also some stratagems you can use to even greater effect.

This makes those Fleshborers 24″ range with Strength 6 AP -1. Were you expecting Termagants or Gargoyles to be able take Strength 6 AP 1 shots at your models? I certainly wasn’t! I guess we’re kind of lucky the Combat Patrol box didn’t come with a Tervigon. Oh man, what the heck are those things going to do in the new codex?!

90 Painted Termagants should be enough? No? Well to the painting bench for me!
