Age of Sigmar: What Battletomes Are Next?

Games Workshop teased folks with the next two battletomes back in January. What’s coming for summer 2022 and beyond?

It’s been a couple months since we got the Roadmap for AoS in 2022. We just got the Arena of Shades which previewed the next two books coming which are Nighthaunt and Daughters of Khaine.

We also know that slated for this summer are two more battletomes. All we know about those are that one is a Chaos Battletome and the other is an Order Battletome.

Now, considering we still haven’t gotten the Nighthaunt or Daughters of Khaine book, we suspect these two books are a ways off. Which is unfortunate. We’ve only gotten 5 new Battletomes for AoS 3.0 since the relaunch last year. I’m not the only one wishing GW would pick-up the pace on Battletome releases…but I digress. We need to talk about what these two books could be and what books could follow them.

Chaos Battletome

Nurgle already got their book so we’re not expecting to see that get a redo this quickly. The other Chaos Gods are all up for grabs. And don’t forget about the Slaves to Darkness army either. Archaon hasn’t been idle. But these aren’t the only chaos factions to consider. There’s one more that fans think is a lot more likely…

The Skaven have been in need of a new book for a while. They are also highly suspected thanks to the recent Warhammer: Underworlds Nethermaze release.

We honestly rooting for the Ratmen to get their book next. We’ll see if that one pans out for them.

Order Battletome

As far as order goes they’ve got a pretty big roster of options to choose from. Stormcasts already got a book so we seriously doubt they are due for a while. Fyreslayers are out now. DoK are coming very soon. We don’t think the Lumineth are getting a book as they basically got two towards the tail end of the last edition. That leaves 4 options:

  • Cities of Sigmar
  • Sylvaneth
  • Seraphon
  • Kharadon Overlords

Of these four, I’d personally like to see Sylvaneth get a book next. GW had to delay their last book for a bit and I don’t think that army ever got a fair shake. Plus, it could use some love. After that, I’d like to see the Kharadon Overlords, then Seraphon, and finally the Cities get a book.

Without getting into too much detail I want Cities to go last so they can get more “time in the oven.” On top of being a hodge-podge of older models, they also have the funkiest rules with all the allies they can pull in. Sometimes those allies get a little busted based on the Cities benefits they are gaining.

So What’s After The Unannounced Books?

At this point it’s unclear and it’s going to all be speculation. We’re going to be keeping an eye on what GW announces next week. We wouldn’t be shocked to see an new Battlebox featuring two armies as the harbingers of what’s to come. After that…who knows!

What we do know is that GW has 17 armies that are currently in the game that need 3.0 battletomes. 19 if you count the Nighthaunt and DoK books that aren’t technically out yet. That’s a lot of ground to cover.

What 3.0 Battletomes do you want to see sooner rather than later?
