The War Zone books have pointed a spotlight on the Nachmund Gauntlet once again with Rift War. This is all starting to feel very familiar.

Games Workshop has announced a new War Zone book. Rift War is taking us right to the heart of the action in an epic fight between the Imperium and Chaos. The Nachmund Gauntlet is one of the few stable routes through the Great Rift. We got caught up on the first part of the struggle with Vigilus Alone. And now we’re getting a look at the next round with Rift War.

Abaddon the Despoiler brought a new level of horror to Vigilus – and may have even slain Marneus Calgar into the bargain – but like any good manager, he prefers not to get bogged down in details. Now, in Rift War, he’s sending Haarken Worldclaimer to seize the Nachmund Gauntlet, cutting off the Imperium Nihilus – and Vigilus itself – from the Emperor’s guiding light. Should he succeed, it’d be a massive blow to the gruelling work of the Indomitus Crusade.”

Nachmund Rift War 2.0?

Huh…that’s odd. I feel like I’m experiencing some déjà vu. Abaddon is back and has sent in Haarken Worldclaimer to take the Nachmund Gauntlet. But… didn’t we do this already? We already had Vigilus Defiant and Vigilus Ablaze. That’s how we got Primarius Calgar in the first place.

I know it’s been (oh my god) 4 years since we had the first wave of Vigilus books. But I do remember the hype because of this video:

That was released back in December of 2018. I know in the last couple of years time has lost all meaning and it feels like a lifetime ago…but this is all starting to feel very familiar. I suppose for the past few IRL years we’ve been a little spoiled by GW in terms of the lore actually moving forward. Players from a certain vintage will remember that in the past, GW seemed to have the story caught in a time-loop. They’d push the clock to a certain point and then hit the reset button on the story for a new edition.

In fact…that kinda feels like what’s happening here. The last time we got all the Vigilus books, chaos got a pretty major update. You don’t suppose GW is setting things up to do that AGAIN, do you?

“War Zone Nachmund: Rift War has all the lore and maps you’ll need to follow the conflict – plus tons of ways to spice up your games. Along with new Armies of Renown and a Codex Supplement, you’ll find a whole campaign system for running a War of Desperation in all modes of play. Using new alliance rules and Campaign Master’s Edicts, you and your friends can fight for control of three brutal War Zones, each with its own special rules and Legendary Mission. “

Something, something, “Time is a flat circle” something. I blame the warp.
