Star Wars: The Moments We Need to See in ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’

Disney’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series premiere is just around the corner. Let’s look at what we’d like to see in the new show.

Obi-Wan Kenobi comes out next week. This highly anticipated show will follow the exiled Jedi Master about ten years after the fall of the Republic. It’s certainly got us hyped, so today let’s take a look at some things we’d like to see from his adventures.

5. Flying Inquisitors

This kind of small thing. We know the Inquisitors are going to be in the show. We know they are keeping their classic spinney lightsabers. I just really hope that we get to see them fly. The silly helicopter lightsaber flying technique cracks me up. I’d love to see this in live action; it’s both hilarious and scary at the same time.

4. Obi-Wan Crashing a Spaceship

Anakin Skywalker was the greatest fighter pilot of his generation. Even as Darth Vader he’s pretty skilled. Obi-Wan Kenobi, however, is… not as good. In fact, he has something of a history of crashing ships. Both large and small. Really technology in generally isn’t his strong suit. Anyway, I think the show needs to keep this up. Let Kenobi crash something. Maybe a few things. It’s just kind of his style.

3. An Actual Reason Why Vader Didn’t Search Tatooine

It’s been a long running comment that hiding Luke on his father’s home planet, with his father’s family and under his own name was kind of stupid. How in the heck did Vader never search here? The main answer is that he never knew there was anything to search for.  The show, however, seems posed to raise some real questions. From the trailers, this takes place while Obi-Wan is on Tatooine. And unlike what might have been assumed in the past, that Vader thought Kenobi was dead, we know that he’s looking for him now. We’d better get some good reasons here for why they don’t deeply search Tatooine, and why no one thinks that a Skywalker living with the Lars is an interesting fact.

2. The Lars’ Redemption

Owen and Beru Lars raised Luke Skywalker. They are, more than anyone else really, responsible for how he turned out. His nature, optimism, and moral compass are all things which helped free the Galaxy in some way. That came from them. And yet we really know next to nothing about them. Their brief appearances make them out to be caring (if over-protective) parents. In the Original Trilogy they mostly act as an obstacle for Luke starting his heroes journey.

From trailers, we know that the Lars (Larses?) are going to be in the show. I think now is a great change to get a better look at them. See what makes them tick and what kind of people they are. Let’s get a bit of redemption for the couple that raised a galactic savior only to be killed-off off-screen.

1. Some Anakin/Vader and Obi-Wan Banter

Anakin and Obi-Wan have great chemistry. Whether it’s live action or animated, their relationship is one of the major driving forces of Star Wars. It’s been described as a love story even. They also have some amazing banter. It’s a hallmark of their relationship. We know Vader is going to be in the show. A confrontation has been teased. With Hayden Christensen returning, we seem to be getting a more… Anakin-y Vader than before. Not a fully formed one. I’d really like to see some good, old-fashion banter between the two when they do have a confrontation. It would both be hilarious and kind of heartbreaking. Anyway, I hope this confrontation is good!

Bonus: Don’t Have a Whole Episode Devoted to Another Show

Look, I love the Mando and Baby Yoda. But having a whole episode of The Book Of Boba Fett be a stealth episode of the Mandalorian was a bit much. I’d like this show to avoid that.
