The Death Guard are one of the toughest Legions out there during the Horus Heresy. How does that translate to the tabletop? Let’s find out.

Mortarion and his Legion are a very “meat and potatoes” type of fighting force. They are no-nonsense crew that take the most basic of tools and wage war to get the job done. They don’t need frills — they just need a target. They are tough and unrelenting and today we’re getting a closer look at their rules.

“The Death Guard believe in going back to basics, winning footslogging fights through attrition and sheer force of will. Soaring into battle with fancy assault packs and other untrustworthy wargear, while not off-limits, is an infrequent tactic. Instead, they’re Remorseless in their advance. After following the Barbaran cardio regimen, there’s no objective these soldiers can’t reach on foot, and no enemy they can’t dismantle – with their bare hands if need be. “

Death Guard Rules Preview

The Death Guard have a unique rule called Remorseless which allows them to essentially move normally and count as stationary. That whole “move normally” part includes moving through terrain that might have modifiers or restrictions. They even ignore Pinning restrictions! As long as they don’t run they count as stationary which opens up a ton of fire power for them as well.

Furthermore, this doesn’t change any rules for Charging and Immobilised vehicles can’t suddenly move. However they can (somewhat) ignore the movement penalties for Crew Stunned. This really does make them as Remorseless as the name implies.

While the Death Guard are good with any weapon you could say they have a certain affinity for the more chemically enhanced side of things. They have some unique weapons that even the Emperor finds a bit…questionable.

The Alchem weapons are deadly, acid spewing guns of all sizes. Maybe these weapons remind them of their own toxic homeworld’s atmosphere. Or maybe they just appreciate how effective they can be. Whatever the case may be these weapons are looking pretty nasty to get hit by — so look out for those templates!

Will you march along side the Death Guard? The Horus Heresy re-launch is coming sooner than you might think!
