“On the battlefield, the Iron Hands are built different – they don’t need to hide behind walls like their yellow-clad cousins, or dash away from a head-on collision like the flighty Fifth Legion. No, the X Legion take their licks on the (steel-capped) chin. Tough as The Medusa’s Scales, these Space Marines power through grievous injuries with nothing more than stubborn grit and a steady supply of replacement body parts.”

Iron Hands Rule Preview

The Medusa’s Scales are tough to penetrate. For the Iron Hands this manifests in a unique way. All ranged attacks against their non-vehicle units receive a -1 Strength penalty. This can really change the math for some weapon extremes. Furthermore, vehicles gain the “It Will Not Die (6+)” rule. If the vehicle already has that rule, you get to add +1 to the check!

This rule really makes the Iron Hands one of the toughest Legions in the Horus Heresy. If you’re looking for an army that can weather the storm of bolter fire then the Iron Hands might be for you! Oh, and this isn’t the only thing that makes them tougher than your average Legion…

The Iron Hands are also mentally tough. Silver-Iron Will is a special Warlord Trait that means the Warlord and all units they have ever joined are never affected by rules or effects that lower a Characteristic. That means any Fear (X) abilities don’t matter to them and neither do Rad-phage rules. Take that other Legions!

There’s a slight trade-off for their Reactions as they can’t make any during the Movement phase, but they do get to make an additional reaction during the Shooting or Assault phases. And if the Warlord ever dies, then those reactions go back to normal.

If you’re looking for a Tough-as-Nails Legion the Iron Hands are it! Master-craftsmen with cold, hard steel in their hearts. They might have taken a serious hit at Istavann — but they didn’t die out. They only came back stronger!

Does the Iron Hands sound like the Legion for you? Swear your loyalty soon with the Horus Heresy Boxed Set!
