‘Furiosa’ Has Started Filming
We’re returning to the Mad Max universe – Furiosa tells the origin story of the badass, one armed driver we met in Fury Road.
With Three Thousand Years of Longing complete and on its way to theaters, George Miller has moved his attention back to the Mad Max universe. After some COVID related delays, production has started on the Fury Road sequel fans have been waiting years for. And it all starts here…

What We Know About Furiosa
Last year director talked about the project and his search for the right cast with the NYT. Nick Lathouris and George Miller’s script was completed before principal photography even started on Fury Road. Furiosa will fill in the fan favorite character’s story including more about her time with the Vuvalini and the ‘Green Place’ she was seeking. And how she ended up driving for Immortan Joe.
Based on the article it sounds like the project is going to be even larger in scale than its predecessor. Production designer Colin Gibson mentioned the new project has more vehicles in it – they built 135 for Fury Road.

The cast list small right now, but I’m expecting we’ll get more names as filming goes on. Right now it’s limited to Anya Taylor-Joy as the young Furiosa, with Nathan Jones reprising his Fury Road role as Rictus Erectus, and Angus Sampson retuning as the Organic Mechanic. Tom Burke and Chris Hemsworth are also on the announced list, but don’t have characters attached.
Looking at IMDB, a lot of the Fury Road crew is involved in Furiosa. The awesome Junkie XL is signed on, as well as cinematographer Simon Duggan and stunt coordinator Tim Wong. Jenny Beavan (now an Oscar winner) is returning as head of costume design.
I’m expecting another post apocalyptic epic in 2024.
