It’s the perfect time to get started with the lads who lunch, Ogor Mawtribes. So let us help you get off on the right dish.

Every army has their motivations; some want to conquer the Realms, some want to protect what they view as theirs, and others just want to trample everything into dust. The Ogor Mawtribes have a much more simple goal: food. If they can fit it in their mouth, they want to eat it, and if they can’t, they want to chop it up until they can. This makes them terrifying opponents on the battlefield, but also a ton of fun to pilot. Here are some quick tips and tricks to get the most out of your chubby warriors.

Who Are the Ogor Mawtribes?

The raucous Ogor Mawtribes descend from the mountains in a fury of roars, belches, and farts. They bring massive black powder weapons that can reduce a man to mist while giant pack creatures lope ahead of them, bringing down enemy vanguards with ease. They serve an entity called The Great Maw, an enormous fanged chasm in Ghur that devours everything that falls into it. By devouring their foes, they are able to invoke powerful magics, and they give homage to their god through the consumption of varied delicacies.

Why Play Ogor Mawtribes?

In 3.0, especially with the most recent General’s Handbook, medium-based MSU infantry are incredibly powerful, and that’s basically your entire army. You also have access to some amazing monsters, powerful magic, and deadly heroes. Just as dangerous on the charge as in the shooting phase, the Ogors can do just about anything.

Strengths

  • You can be powerful in every phase of the game.
  • You can take a hit and dish it out too.
  • Deadly on the charge.

Weaknesses

  • Your army is kind of small so be mindful of board control.
  • Limited mortal wound protection

Signature Rules

The following rules apply to all Ogor Mawtribes:

  • Might Makes Right – Giant warriors are especially hard to deal with, so all your Ogors count as 2 models for objective control, and your monsters count as 10.
  • Ravenous Brutes – The only thing more dangerous than an Ogor fighting you is a hungry Ogor that isn’t. Ogors more than 3″ away from enemies add 2″ to their Movement, and Ogors that are closer add 2 to their Bravery as they sate their appetite.
  • Trampling Charge – A charging Ogor is a terrifying prospect, even more so if that Ogor is on the back of a giant mountain beast. When they charge, they can pick one unit within 1″ to get trampled,  dishing out mortal wounds before combat even starts.

These rules only apply to Beastclaw Raiders models:

  • Grasp of the Everwinter – The Beastclaw Raiders brings the chilling storms of their mountain homes with them, freezing their enemies in place. Enemy units that get too close risk mortal wounds.

Subfactions
Ogor Mawtribes subfactions are called Mawtribes, and each one will allow you to play a different style of army. Some favor the Beastclaws, while others bring the Gutbusters to the forefront.

Terrain

The Ogor Great Mawpot is an amazing centerpiece model, and it has some pretty incredible rules. It can boost the casting of your wizards while they’re nearby, and you can give your lads a ladle of gruel to heal EVERY unit on the field for d3 wounds. All you have to do to fill it up again is kill a model within 6″, which shouldn’t be hard to do.

The ravenous Mawpit is the first alternative faction terrain available and a great way to chomp on unsuspecting foes.

Key Ogor Mawtribes Units

Frostlord on Stonehorn

One of the deadliest monsters in the book carrying a powerful combat hero, this is a great general if you want to have a more bestial army. The Stonehorn is incredible, durable, and on the charge is one of the deadliest models in the game.

2. Ogor Tyrant

An amazing hero who hits like a bus, can take a ton of punishment, and has one of the best command abilities available. Definitely don’t leave him at home.

3. Leadbelchers

The only thing scarier than an Ogor is one with a cannon, and these guys bring just that thing. With all the punch of an Ogor warrior backed up by a powerful ranged weapon, these guys provide much-needed ranged support to your mostly melee army.

4. Icebrow Hunter

A great vanguard hero, perfect for hunting down enemy solos or monsters. He can do a surprising amount of damage, especially if he gets a running start.

5. Gluttons

Tough and reliable battleline, the Gluttons are an incredible unit. You can either give them dual weapons to get exploding 6s, or give them armored gauntlets to deal back damage on successful saves. They will make up the bulk of your force.

6. Ironblaster

An incredibly nasty piece of shooting equipment, the Ironblaster is equipped to blast hordes, monsters, and characters alike.

7. Mournfang Pack

The powerful Battleline of the Beastclaw Raiders, Mournfang always hit hard, but especially on the charge.

8. Gnoblars

Some of the smallest models are also some of the most important- an Ogor always appreciates a screening unit and a quick snack!

9. Gorger Mawpack

The Gorgers provide a massive wall of meat, with an extra wound over normal Ogors. Add in the ability to shut off nearby Command Abilities and you have a winner.
