Daredevil and Kingpin are returning to the small screen in the upcoming Disney+ series that continues Maya Lopez’s story.

Rumors about the two joining the new series have been floating around for a while. The move of the Netflix series over to Disney+ amplified them. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news.

“Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, who portrayed classic Marvel Comics characters Daredevil and The Kingpin, respectively, have joined the series, which stars Hawkeye breakout Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez.”

We all know Charlie Cox from the Netflix shows. Until 2020 he thought he’d never play the character again, then Marvel head Kevin Feige asked him to return for a cameo. The cheers in my theater were loud when he showed up on the screen in No Way Home. Marvel has made a lot of fans happy by bringing him back – his turn as Daredevil was fantastic. Daredevil was consistently the best show in Netflix’s lineup.

Vincent Dinafrio made a big entrance in Hawkeye last year – so his return in Echo, which continues that story, isn’t as much of a surprise. It’s a welcome return, especially since the MCU version of the character runs closer to the comics.

It will be interesting to see if they bring in more of the characters (and actors behind them) into the MCU in the future. With Hawkeye and Echo, they are leaning into the street-level heroes, leaving the possibility that Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, or Luke Cage may show up.

Echo Debuts in 2023

Maya Lopez aka Echo was introduced to the MCU in Hawkeye. Maya’s solo series will follow her as she leaves New York for her hometown to reconnect with her Indigenous roots and mourn her beloved uncle, William Lopez (Zahn McClarnon). But, she’s not alone. She’s followed by one of Kingpin’s goons. It’s not clear how Daredevil will play into the story. We’ll have to wait till next year to find out.

The cast includes Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Devery Jacobs, Cody Lightning, and Graham Greene. Alaqua and McClarnon are reprising their roles.
