Goatboy’s Warhammer 40K – CSM Dreadnought Stompede

I love dreadnoughts almost as much as the CSMs do. Let’s put together a list that will “walk” over the competition.

I am going to show you a shell of a dreadnought list that is running around in my head.  It doesn’t help that I got ahold of one of the new Plastic Leviathan Dreadnoughts mixed with having to paint a few for a client.  Emperor’s Children can be a lot of fun if you go into it thinking each model can be a bit different cuz they believe in being fancy.  But that isn’t why I am writing this list out – it is because I love dreadnoughts too dang much.

On a Discord chat I frequent there was some discussion if running Helbrutes were worth it in CSM and their variants.  The thought was just having something in the backfield that could hold an objective, throw out some firepower as needed, and be a bit harder to remove than say 10 Cultists or 5 Legionaries.  Beyond the model being goofy it was just the idea that it is basically cheap enough to be useful.  Most of the time it is the thought of it being too slow but there are a few different Legions that can help that out.  Plus – it again is something designed to sit towards the back and hopefully not need a ton of supervision.  It does have CORE and it can have decent weapons mixed with a nice bit of counter punch.

Hello Chaos Leviathan

I am also thinking the Chaos Leviathan might be pretty decent too as it has a 2+ armor save naturally and can have a pretty annoying gun with the Grav-Flux Bombard – aka the good armor killer.  I think going Volkite little tummy guns is the way to go. Plus with a new plastic kit, a Leviathan isn’t too hard to get something cool and unique.  Yes it takes your CP but if you are setting up to go all vehicles then CP isn’t needed as much.

But here is the shell and that doesn’t have any Lord Discordants because while they are super sweet – they are not nearly as needed in this type of list.  I expect this to hit the middle of the board and be as much of a nuisance as it can be.  I did go with the newest kind of updated Dreadnought with the Venomcrawlers.  They are fast and can push into your enemies deployment zone quickly.  Plus depending on the combo of Legion you pick  they can get somewhere in a hurry as needed.

Alright enough waxing poetic let’s get on with it.

Stomping to Victory

Again it is really dependent on what Marks you want to do on your Characters and thus your Helbrutes.  It is a shame we can’t add anything to the Leviathans as a Mark of Tzeentch might make them annoying to chew thru.  The idea here is to hit the middle and hold it with a ton of beef.  The Exalted Champ plus Daemon Prince will let your regular Helbrutes reroll 1’s to hit and 1’s to wound – hopefully pushing your Multi-Meltas up.  Everything else is just there to get into the way.

So dust off those weird Helbrutes from back in the day.  The ones with the stanky arm hanging out trying to give you a creepy side hug.  Helbrutes might only suck a little bit these days.

For the Warmaster!
