The Boulet Brothers are back and bringing filth, horror, and glamor to Shudder with a spin-off and a mysterious special project.

Shudder is looking to follow the malevolent success of 2021’s Dragula season four with a fifth season – plus two newly announced projects. According to Variety, AMC’s delightful horror streaming service has just signed a deal with the Boulet Brothers to “expand our cinematic universe,” according to the performers.

A Match Made in Hell: Shudder & the Boulet Brothers

Last year, Shudder announced the almost instant fifth season pickup of The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula. The partnership began in October 2020 when the 2-hour special Dragula: Resurrection aired on the streaming service. The show followed six drag performers from previous seasons competing for $20,000 and a chance to return for a fourth season, also announced for release on Shudder.

The fourth season soon became one of Shudder’s most streamed shows. Soon after, Shudder was able to add the second and third seasons to their haunted library – and soon, there’ll be a fifth chapter. And that’s not all…

The Dragula Universe is Taking Over

In addition to another season, the Boulets and Shudder have signed a deal for two new projects. The first is a full-season spin-off series, which has already finished filming and is slated to premiere this fall. Shudder’s Craig Engler teased a dreadfully bright future for fans:

“With ‘The Boulet Brothers Dragula and Resurrection,’ the Boulet Brothers have proven to be uniquely talented producers and storytellers, creating innovative, inclusive programming that smashes genres and draws a large and loyal following. We’re excited to be working with them on their upcoming new competition series, with more to come in 2023.”

The Boulets gave even more juicy hints at what we can expect from the partnership, and honey, it looks vast.

“This is an incredibly exciting time to be a Dragula fan. This new partnership with Shudder (and the AMC family) provides an incredible opportunity for us to expand our cinematic universe and to flesh out all of the characters, stories, and stars that audiences have fallen in love with over the years. We couldn’t be more excited about the content that we’re about to unleash, and if fans have felt shocked and engaged with our content in the past, they are truly not ready for what’s coming next. It’s going to be a wild, fun, and terrifying new ride.”

What is Dragula?

Created and hosted by drag-underworld royalty Dracmorda & Swanthula Boulet, Dragula season 1 premiered on YouTube back in 2016. Capturing the spirit of their numerous nightclub shows and alternative-style stage competitions, the Boulet Brothers have built a cult following among fans all over the world.

The Boulets’ challenges are designed to push competitors to create some of their scariest, weirdest, and campiest concepts. Past seasons have seen personalized killer clowns, vampire beach parties, monsters of rock, loving portrayals of slash-flick bimbos, and a full-out D&D scene.
