Dune has been having a moment and it’s keeping strong with a very spicy-looking trailer for Dune: Awakening.

Even before the latest Dune movie came out, we’ve had a lot of games based on the world of Arrakis. But now we have an open world survival MMO titled Dune: Awakening.

The trailer doesn’t say much, but the graphics are stunning. But considering the source material, Dune: Awakening is set to be an excellent addition to this growing Dune fanbase’s collection.

Games like Rust and ARK: Survival Evolved have laid down a great foundation for what this game could be. It’s being developed by Funcom, who also made Conan Exiles, another open-world survival MMO. Conan Exiles never got huge player base, but the people who like it do really enjoy it. It’s rated as “Mostly Positive” on Steam. This is ideally good for the players since Funcom has years of experience in this exact genre of game. So, we can only hope these skills will transfer to Dune: Awakening.

Dune: Awakening Features

There will be the ability to build shelters against sandstorms, stillsuit maintenance, and of course, sandworms. Based on this features list, it seems like this could be a very extensive game with a lot to do. Of course, the main worry with any open-world game at all is a lack of content.

It will be the main point of contention among players if there simply isn’t enough to do.

Sign Up For the Beta

Right now, you can Wishlist the game on Steam, but absolutely far more importantly you can also sign up for the beta test on the game’s official page. Also on the official page, if you scroll across a little bit, you’ll find some bare-bones details.

Dune: Awakening promises to combine the “grittiness and creativity of survival games with the social interactivity of large-scale, persistent multiplayer games to create a unique and ambitious Open World Survival MMO.”

I think we are all really hoping for this to be good. There’s a ton of potential and so much source material to use for people, places, and ideas. We will be keeping a very close eye on this one.
