Today’s 40K hot mess is talking about the Drukhari Reavers and how they could be more interesting than just pain-obsessed bikers.

Now I know what you are saying – Dark Eldar really don’t have any bad data sheets?  Well that is true but they do have a few that just don’t feel – good enough.

I remember when this kit came out.  It was pretty neat and while not completely amazing when compared to what kind of kits we have today it did look pretty dang cool.  Plus – it only really had one pain point for building the model.  Those dang little noodle arms were always a pain to sync up with the body right.  It was back in the day of a flat space to match with a flat space and hope for the best.  Still – the model was light and the little ball joint thingie worked out well enough to look cool.

So what the heck should we do with them to make them better?

Drukhari Reaver Basics

Dark Eldar like to go fast and these are the Wych cult units that like to ride bikes instead of some kind of weird hover board thing.  They have spikes on them, are supposed to hit hard, and well – fly around like creepy flying motor bikes of some kind of Slytherin pain cult. Sadly they don’t hit nearly as hard as you would hope them to.  So let’s work on that.

Keep Them a Glass Cannon – That Punches Up

How about make their ability to do Mortal wounds on a charge just better.  A lot of the time abilities are shoved into Stratagems. But why not just add it to the data slate as a one shot sort of thing?  Call it Murder Charge and the unit gets to do Mortal Wounds as they rush in.  Give it the one shot ability and thus make it specifically unique for them.  I feel we could remove a lot of stratagems and instead give units abilities to cover the same thing.  This means the CP are used more “strategically” instead of just trying to blow a ton on some kind of combo.

Let the Jetbike Be an Upgrade!

Why can’t a character ride one of these things?  Heck there should be more characters you can create by combo’ing some pieces and kit bash your way to freedom.  Just the ability to create unique leaders out of the box would be a sweet addition and find a use for the kid. I still think GW should just come out with a “custom” character Match Play book that lets all the armies create unique leaders that ride bikes, live in dreadnoughts, or just be a true badass on the table top.

Better Damage Output From Shooting

How about they get an ability to advance and shoot better as they use their momentum to sling the poisoned shard farther?  Or just make them have a unique gun that isn’t just a Rapid Fire version of the one a warrior has?  Let it do some weird stuff.  Maybe bring back pinning or some other kind of targeting option for your other stuff.  Too much of 40k is units almost working just as a single army. Instead GW should encourage you to figure out ways for a force to work together other than just scoring objectives.

Let the Bikes Be Neat!

How about having options for not just the regular Reavers but maybe more Veteran ones?  Just like the Wyches have upgraded versions why not have the bikes be one?  For example, if take a cool character on a bike, he could have some kind of sweet gang that hangs out with him.  This allows you to create little character narratives within your armies instead of just taking X unit because the internet told you it was the best.

This is a neat little kit and I just want it to be unique again instead of a weird choice to see in an army.  It can be a sweet option and with a few cool guns, unique weapon load outs, and character options you could create a cool centerpiece for your army. Instead of just Drahzar in every army doing what he does – killing the enemy super good.

Let us know how you would fix the unit, down in the comments!
