Warhammer 40K Meta Hotness: Chaos Knight War Dog Stalker

The Chaos Knight Codex has made a splash on the competitive scene with the powerful updates to the War Dogs.

The Chaos Knights Codex’s real power beyond just being able to take Abaddon is the return and updates to the War Dog dataslate.  The evil Armigers are the real glue of the army and their damage output is extremely powerful.  I know I wasn’t a fan of the initial Avenger Chaincannon. But its update really has shown it to be a powerful addition to the game.  Having it throw out 12 shots and be an assault type is a hugely powerful option . Now you can easily rush your little War Doggie around and pour out a bunch of damage as needed.

War Dog Stalker Basics

This is the close combat plus ranged weapon option for the Chaos Knights and giving it an “assault” shooting weapon is huge for a mixed unit.  They can punch up really well, shoot pretty decently, and control an objective with objective secured.  This type is usually House Herpetrax.  Which leaves it as an Iconoclast option and thus it can charge in with more attacks and do more damage.  You can also have them set up with a Daemonbreath Meltaspear if you need more anti tank options. So this model is really well set up to answer whatever you need in a Chaos Knight army.

Aggression!

Being able to shoot and throw out a ton of wounds makes this unit a powerful option.  I lean towards more shooting in my Chaos Knight armies but this is the basic default one that should show up a lot of the time.  Give them a “mark” like ability, add in some extra rules. Then watch as Abbadon brings his War Dogs to the table and ruins the neighborhood.

War Dog Stalker Closing Thoughts

The list above is considered one of the best “Chaos Knights” lists you could play right now.  It can do a ton of damage. Abbie is in there to throw out some wounds as needed. Plus you get nice layers of rerolls with relics and the Black Legion true Agent of Chaos.  If you want to play Chaos Knights make sure to grab all your War Dogs, throw on some magnets at the shoulder, and shoot things for Chaos.
