Comedic darling and creator of the comedy-documentary character Borat is rumored to be joining the MCU – but who will he play?

This week, the rumors that Mephisto will one day be joining the MCU have been rekindled! I know we’ve all been joking that every villain in Phase 4 was secretly Mephisto. But a major player like Mephisto can’t just appear in any story for any reason! He needs to enter with the proper gravitas.

If there’s an actor who can carry a devilish gravitas, it’s Sacha Baron Cohen.

Rumors Say Cohen Will Join the MCU

According to Deadline, the Borat action is in talks with Disney to join its ever-expansive Marvel cinematic universe. A source close to the production has relayed that there’s talk of Sacha Baron Cohen joining the cast of the upcoming Ironheart.

His role, it’s rumored, would be that of a villain. The same source has indicated that the story’s villain will be… Mephisto? Look, Ironheart wasn’t the first place I expected Mephisto to make his highly-anticipated MCU appearance, but then again, the devil can be anywhere.

Cohen was reportedly spotted at Marvel’s production facilities located in the U.K. Representatives for both Marvel and Cohen have declined to respond to the rumors so far.

Is There Truth to the Rumor?

As with all rumors, it’s hard to say for certain what will come to pass before official casting announcements are made. Cohen is an incredible actor whose skills exceed comedy. His best-known role in Borat really showed the actor’s skill for cheekiness – Mephisto is a role he would fill expertly.

While re rumor mill says that the villainous demon character will supposedly be a big bad in Ironheart, he could premiere in another production. There are plenty of upcoming shows and films that could touch on the dark, metaphysical side of the MCU. Don’t be surprised if Cohen’s Mephisto appears in a post-credits scene in something like the new Agatha Harkness show.
