The Boulet Brothers and Shudder kick off their first legacy show with filth, horror, and glamour in the Titans premiere.

The spooky season is officially in full swing with the premiere of the highly-anticipated Dragula Titans. It’s the Boulet Brothers’ first legacy show – 10 of the show’s past competitors are being raised from the dead to once again compete for the title of Dragula’s next Super Monster. Only the rules have changed a little bit this time around…

Dragula Titans Ep. 1: The Opening

As the show opens, I’m thrilled to say that the Boulets have finally broken the fourth wall. We also found out that the rules are a little different for Titans. There will be no extermination challenges, but instead, everyone has to participate in the Boulet’s dark and twisted Fright Feats – and thinks week, the girls had to bob for apples (in a giant tub of blood, guts, and other grossness).

At the end of each challenge, the competitor with the lowest score will be sent back into oblivion (or the Boulet Brothers’ walk-in freezer). If a contestant refuses or fails a Fright Feat, they’ll be sent into the abyss – and the last contestant to be eliminated will come back to take your place.

The Contestants

Just coming off of the season 4 cast are Koco Caine, Astrud Aurelia, and Hoso Terra Toma (fresh from the Dragula world tour). Season 3 is represented by Eva Destruction and Yovska, while season 2 turned out with Abhora and Erika Klash, plus Resurrection stars Kendra Onixxx and Victoria Black. Melissa B. Fierce is the only competitor for season 1, but she turns out more than enough personality to represent the whole season.

The show begins with the cast members getting (re)acquainted. The Dragula world is small, and so many of these performers have worked together before even coming to the show. So many of these performers have history, so the first day is spent playing catch-up instead of rehearsing. A few of the girls get called out during judgment for not knowing the words. Oops!

Alliances, Fights, & Teletubbies

There’s an alliance forming between Koco, Melissa, and Kendra, but whether or not it’ll do well for them has yet to be seen – they were each safe except Koco, who ended up at the bottom. The love triangle happening between Hoso, Astrud, and Abhora is what provides most of the friction this week – that and Yovka being totally out-shaded by Kendra Onixxx. She called that girl a Teletubby Toilet Bowl. Even Yovska had to admit that reading was honor roll.

The Boulets’ first-ever Titans challenge was a performance lip-sync with a Halloween House Party from Hell theme. Jack-o-lanterns, devils, vampires, and other classic Halloween costumes are the name of the game.

The Looks

The looks in this show certainly live up to the legacy of, well, a legacy competition show. Everyone has gotten hotter (good for them!) since the last time we saw them on camera, and every performer has really upped their game since the last time we saw them on Dragula.

For this week’s spooky party, Victoria’s jack-o-lantern squashed the competition (I hope Swan felt that pun). But Astrud really came back with a vengeance after being sent home just after winning the first challenge in season 4. Eva Destruction also receives a place at the top for her decadent devil look – of all the competitors, I’d be lying if I said she wasn’t the gal I’m rooting for.

In addition to the self-dubbed “nickname”, Yovska’s pumpkin costume and Hoso’s pirate also scored her the status of safe – for now. (Dun dun DUNNN!)

Dragula Titans Ep. 1: The Elimination

In the end, the bottom was comprised of Koko in her vinyl mummy look, Erika Klash in what I thought was a darling little bat, and Abhora’s look, which… jury is still out on which ghoul or beastie she was trying to represent. No doubt she looked great, but in the end, Abhora’s failure to understand the assignment is what made her the biggest contender for elimination.

Because oh, wait, also the contestants themselves had to vote to determine who would be eliminated. And beneath the shade of these here queens, the room ultimately decided that it was time for Abhora to go home. The Boulets introduced a trap door underneath the two most voted-for contestants, and the door beneath Abhora dropped her.

Rest in peace, Creep Queen

Of course, according to the rules, Abhora can return next if someone fails or denies a Fright Feat. But Erika Klash walked away from this experience with plenty of fire – and I’m personally ready for her to take that anger and bring it to the stage.

You can (and should) catch new episodes of ‘Dragula Titans’ streaming on Shudder every Tuesday at 12 a.m. EST.
