Warhammer 40K: 5 Astra Militarum Units GW Will Never Update

There’s no way Games Workshop would ever update these Astra Militarum Units. It’s nigh impossible!

We talk a lot about units we’d like to see Games Workshop update in their model range. However, we rarely talk about units that would be almost impossible for Games Workshop to update. They’d probably have to redesign an entire kit or scrub so many units from the range that they are basically stuck. We could throw down an imaginary gauntlet and triple dog dare them to and they still wouldn’t update these units…

Ratlings

Sorry LotR fans, the have taken the Hobbits to Isengard and we’re not getting them back. Only in this case Isengard is Finecast-land and the Hobbits are Ratling Snipers. We’re never getting plastic versions as those would be just too hard to do…it’s not like we’ve gotten plastic ones before.

Oh right…except for those. Yep. Too hard to replace…

Taurox

We’re never going to get a replacement/update to the Taurox that replaces the front tracks with wheels. I mean, why would you need quad tracks anyhow? Turning tracks involves slowing one side down or speeding up the other side to complete a turn. Having 4 sets would make turning…interesting. But hey, in the 41st millennium mankind likes to keep it’s vehicles “interesting” to drive.

Chimera

Okay, on a serious note I actually do believe this kit won’t get an update in the future. Why? Because it’s the basis for too many other kits. Games Workshop would have to “redesign the wheel” if they updated/replaces the Chimera kit. I think we’re much more likely to see GW just scrap/replace the kit with a brand new Astra Militarum Transport a la “primaris” options. Would we like to see them update it? Absolutely. The question would be “how?”

Leman Russ Battle Tank

The Main Battle Tank of the Astra Militarum, the Leman Russ Battle Tank, is such a work horse in this range. If there was one tank I wish could get an actual update it would be this kit. However, much like the Chimera, it’s just too ingrained. On the plus side, if GW ever did replace the Leman Russ with a Leman Russ MK II kit all of the variant Leman Russ tanks could also get updated. Realistically, between the Leman Russ and the Chimera, I could see a Leman Russ MK II get approved first. If the main chassis got an update then it’s just a turret update with the various different barrels for the main cannon. This one actually seems doable.

Baneblade

The final kit is the Baneblade. This one is actually the most “modern” tank compared to the Leman Russ and Chimera in terms of age.  It’s the youngest of the batch. However, it suffers from the same issues as the other two in that it’s the “core” kit for a whole bunch of other variants. Sure, most of those options are also included inside the same kit (and it’s really just more or less guns). That said, I wouldn’t hold my breath on an update for this tank anytime soon. I think we’re stuck with the Baneblade for the foreseeable future. And I’m okay with it because this kit is actually pretty good.

GW will NEVER update these kits and will NEVER prove me wrong (please prove me wrong).
