Both the Ogor Mawtribes and Sylvaneth are getting new Vanguard Boxes this week so what sort of a deal are we looking at for each?

I know many folks are pumped about the upcoming Slaves to Darkness Army Box coming this weekend to pre-order but let’s not skip over the Sylvaneth or the Ogor Mawtribes releases! The Sylvaneth are actually doing quite well with their latest Battletome and a new Vanguard Box is a great place to start. And the Ogor Mawtribes are also about to get a new Battletome AND Vanguard box, too! Both of these armies deserve more attention than they are getting so we’re going to focus on each of their upcoming Vanguard Boxes and do some pricing comparisons.

Ogor Mawtribe Vanguard Pricing Breakdown

1x Tyrant $35

6x Ogor Gluttons $55

2x Mournfangs $35 (the box is normally $70 for 4)

4x Leadblechers $42

Ironblaster $38

Total Individual MSRP: $205

Vanguard Box Price: $130

Total Savings: $75

Keep in mind that they are about to get a new Battletome, too! So if you’re looking to dive into the feast with Ogors this Vanguard Box is a great place to start. Normally, I’d make a recommendation on if this box is a Peat, Repeat, or No-peat (buy 1, buy multiple, or skip it). That’s hard to know considering the book is about to get an update in this case. I’d wager that it’s still a Peat.

Get the Battletome and a Vanguard Box if you want to start the army as I doubt you’ll go wrong with this unit selection. You’ll be able to find a use for just about everything in there.

Branchwych ??? (out of stock/generic error page but I think it was around $25 so we’re estimating that one)

3x Kurnoth Hunters $60

5x Tree-Revenants $50

Treelord $70

Total Individual MSRP: $205

Vanguard Box Price: $130

Total Savings: $75

Again, this is a solid box and a good discounted price. You can’t go wrong with a Treelord. The Kurnoth Hunters can be a strong melee or ranged option. The Branchwych is actually a solid caster in the army. The Tree-Revenants are about the only “iffy” option – but that’s just because they are a little funky to use. This Vanguard box is at minimum a Peat (single buy) rating for a new Sylvaneth player. If I were going to start a brand new Sylvaneth collection and army I would opt for two.

I really like the Treelord and Kurnoth Hunters and everything else is just gravy on top. Still, you’d have an option for a 10-man Tree-Revenant unit and a couple of Branchwyches running around. Keep in mind that the Treelord kit build 3-different types of Treeman options: Durthu, the Treelord Ancient, and the base Treelord. And the same with the Kurnoth Hunters which can have scythes, swords, or bows. And I think I just talked myself into a rare three-peat (triple buy) option.

Both of these Vanguard boxes are up for pre-order this weekend along with the Ogor Mawtribes new Battletome!
