In the new Astra Militarum Codex you won’t be limited to one Regiment — mix and match to create your own!

If you’ve got a wide collection of Astra Militarum units from all the various parts of the range you’re in luck because with the new Codex you’ll be able to mix them together. Regimental Doctrines are going to be a thing in the new book. How will they work? Let’s find out.

via Warhammer Community

“Instead of constraining you to a single specific regiment, the new codex has you mix and match tactics to create your favourite flavour of Guardsmen. All you need to do is choose a pair of Regimental Doctrines to dictate how they fight. These doctrines represent traits like superior artillery skills, high-quality armour, impressive discipline amongst the ranks, or experience in guerilla warfare. “

In total, there are 15 different doctrines to choose from and you can make 93 different combos out of them. This wide variety means you should be able to recreate regiments from the lore — or your own personal regiments tailored to your playstyle. So how about a few examples:

Parade Drill is one you might already be familiar with. Basically, if the unit doesn’t move they get to treat their Lasguns and hot-shot lasguns as Heavy 2. It’s just more shots for not moving.

Looking to pack in some Artillery? Combine them with some spotters and Expert Bombardiers can help those shots land more accurately.

Maybe you’re just looking to mess with your opponent’s cover saves. In that case, Veteran Guerrillas can really do a number on them with their ability to ignore cover from infantry and sentinels within 18″ of their target.

Industrial Efficiency is going to be a popular option for all those tread-heads out there. I’m a little curious if there are other restrictions for this one or if it can apply to basically everything in the Regiment. Those T-Shirt saves suddenly matter!

Grim Demeanour is definitely for anyone who’s looking to take losses and not care. If you’re a “quantity over quality” type then you may want to factor this one in.

And there’s more where those came from. There’s also the Regimental Tactics that the Astra Militarum has access to.

” …if every model in your army has the ASTRA MILITARUM keyword,** your OFFICERS can make use of the Regimental Tactics ability to spread their directives around multiple units at once, and keep the massed forces of the Astra Militarum fighting at peak efficiency.”

Praefectus Order? Hmm…more on that some other day. For now, this is a handy tool for your Officers to use to get those orders out. And of course, we have to take a look at some of those stratagems, too:

So there you have it. Just a few more previews from the Astra Militarum Codex. I’m curious about the Regimental Doctrines as we’ve seen this type of thing before. Many times. With 93 combos you can build there are going to be some that are better than others. I also have a funny feeling it’s not going to take very long for the best ones to filter to the top either…

What do you think about the updated Regimental Doctrines?
